Utah can say what they want about the officiating, but in the 2nd quarter, BYU was called for a face mask that was not a face mask. It turned a big loss into a big gain for Utah. Utah would eventually score a TD in that drive and gain big momentum. What I'm getting at is BYU allowed the TD to be scored after that face mask penalty. Just like Utah allowed BYU to drive the field and kick the field goal after the holding penalty. You can not complain about one penalty and not the other. Both penalties led to points. Points are what changes the outcome of games. The one thing I remember from my high school playing days is being taught by the coach that you have to learn to play through the penalties. Whether they are good or bad penalties, they are a part of the game.

If you watch the replay, Rose could not move his head. The BYU defender caught one finger in the bottom of his facemask and his whole head was immobilized. It was a good call, even though from the angles, it was hard to see that Rose's facemask was included in the jersey grab.

@wasatchm12 күн бұрын
it for sure does not look like a face mask. but the way the player's head moves as the hand grabs the jersey makes u think 100 percent it was a face mask. and I think most refs in college football would have made that call. however, if they have the ability to watch the replay, they refs should have. the BYU player wouldn't jump up after the playing acting like he made a great play if it was in obvious face mask. and I think if the refs had replayed it, they should have reversed it. one penalty that players almost never get away with is a face mask. maybe the utah player made that movement with his head to give the impression it was a face mask. but I think that would be very hard to pull off. but if you watch the play without paying real close attention to where the defenders hands are, you would think it is a obvious face mask.

The PAC 7 needs an 8th member to be a legit conference. The Utes were so in love with the PAC 12, send them back Let them forever be known as crybabies that took their ball and went home. No P4 team to replace them? If Notre Dame misses the playoffs because every Big 10 and SEC member with two losses or less gets in, mabe they'll look for a conference to join( but then they won't get to schedule 4 G5 teams). Or, add a bowl eligible team with 5 men's national basketball titles(the last two back to back), and 6 women's national basketball championships join the conference. UCONN would probably win just as many Big 12 football games as Utah has this year. Has Utah won a conference game this year?

1) In Morgantown, the AD would have been dismissed. 2) wondering if a call should be made at that particular time? I have heard this speculation in basketball and football, if a penalty, foul, traveling, what have you should be called in the waning minutes or seconds of a game. The officials are OBLIGATED to make calls, correct calls from kickoff/tipoff until the final tick on the clock. The rules are the rules for 60 minutes. None of this,"just let 'em play," there shouldn't be any "that penalty(or foul) shouldn't be called in the final seconds and change the outcome of the game." No, that's precisely the point. If officials show a pattern of not making calls on the final plays of the game, Mayhem will ensue. A pass interference no-call that advances the wrong team to the Super Bowl--sound familiar? A face mask in the end zone not called, that results in a safety, awarding 2 points and gives the team with the lead possession? Just happened, didn't it Sam Darnold? A holding call in the first quarter is still a holding call in the final minute. Otherwise, it gives license to players to cheat in the final minute to win. Because a holding penalty or a pass interference is often done deliberately to prevent a score. The fact that the reciever wasn't going to get the ball or score doesn't mean the holding or PI didn't take place. Not calling it wouldn't mean BYU would get a first down or touchdown. Not calling it WOULD give Utah a safety. A penalty is a penalty no matter when it happens. Don't like it? Don't commit penalties.

Not a fan of the red school up north and very disappointed in their response but understand the emotional collapse is due to their failed season. Everything is falling apart, they were picked to win the Big 12 and possibly even the national championship with their coach riding off into the sunset. Then losing their starting quarterback and the meltdown of the team with four losses, now five, eliminating even a bowl opportunity, created the only opportunity to save their season and allow Kyle Whittington to retire on top was to win the holy war. Well that was the last hope and that was shot down in flames. I can’t understand the total collapse but suck it up, honor and respect Kyle for what he accomplished in his career and give him the horse to ride off with his head held high. This has all been a result of misplaced pride and arrogance on the part of Utah's administration. They had a really good stretch in the 2010s where they were on the rise, although they hadn't quite yet reached the level of the elite programs. But they still acted like they had...even though the best thing they accomplished in the CFP era has been losing the Rose Bowl twice. The entitlement they exude is baffling. The players fought hard. But their coaches and admins have put a stain on that with their childish behavior. I admit right after the game I talked a lot of trash to their fans with emotions running high. But outside of a few bad apples, their fans are actually pretty cool. It's just their coaches' and admins' arrogance that has tarnished their last couple seasons, and their reputation.

So that flag was for their AD being on the field, screaming at the refs during the middle of the final play of that kick return. At one point, they pitched it Crossfield and it looked like they had a convoy and had a legit chance to take it for a game-winning kick return however, if they had, the play would’ve been called back because of the unsportsmanlike conduct by that AD. This, harassing the refs on the field after the game on live TV, and him throwing a fit in the press conference, he needs to be fined. Anything new for Utah, after some loss in a PAC 12 basketball game, the previous athletic Director went on a cursing tirade in the press conference after. Their leadership shows this kind of behavior and it trickles down to all levels, including their fans at the stadium. This is why it’s awful to be around Ute athletics. They never see themselves as the problem, yet they continue to show poor sportsmanship continually. Other teams or players may have a moment here and there throughout the years, but Utah does this frequently.

How in this world can you get to really stupid arrogant AD's in a row. The U really knows how to pick pathetic. Dr Hill and now this new clown in town.

So much for the previous two weeks of Utah and the Y trying to calm the rivalry and be nice to each other. I know there are some arrogant Y fans but nothing like the Ute fans. Especially the coach and their AD. SUCH CHILDISH and immature behavior. They just promoted and supported the hatred in their fans.

Did anyone see the touchdown at end of first half that Utah was gifted by the facemask penalty that gave the 25 yards and the score. Stop the nonsense Utah fans. If you will take points that aren’t deserved then own the crap when things balance out!

You stumbled on the crux of the BYU, Utah rivalry at the end. Both sides play their hardest, it means something more for both teams and fan bases. The reaction from the AD is exactly how the fans behave the day after. Your reaction is what a reasonable fan feels like when the game is over, both sides can’t make themselves comfortable with the thought that they lost and have to blame the loss on someone else’s actions.

Kilani meets Witt and shakes his hand at mid field, doesn’t kick a chair, doesn’t say his kids did everything they needed to win when they threw 3 picks, only scores in 1 quarter, and gave up a kick return TD. Holmoe may throw his own students under the bus but not the refs.

I’m sure there are Utah fans out there that think they’re better than the big 12 I have never been one of them and I would believe the best maturity of Utah fans are happy to be in the big 12. Also, in reference to that face mask call in the first half While it probably wasn’t a face mask call even in slow motion. It would be easy to see how the risk would call that as a facemask call. And I do recall the BYU coach understandably going bonkers in the first half so while I give credit to BYU for having a great season, I think you need to not lump all as Utah fans in the same boat.

If it was just the coaches, yeah I get it. But when the AD joins in after the game, that's petty, unprofessional, and should be called out.

That missed point after was a shock. But 6 points is still better than just 3 every time down there. Who knew field goals could win the game.

If Utah wants to win this game they need to get better defense on 5th down. Not sure what people expect from BYU fans. Yes, I’d be very mad about the call if I was a Utah fan. Is Sitake supposed to come out and say “sorry you deserve the win, we lost”?? Happy for the W, it was really really ugly.

It would be difficult to find a school/fanbase as arrogant as Utah that has less justification for being arrogant.

There was definitely a handshake and hug between the coaches at the end of the game, this guy is lying. I am a Utes fan, and I knew exactly how this game was going to go. Not because the Utes were treated poorly, but this is just how the season is going for Utah. This is exactly how college football happens. Sometimes everything goes your way, sometimes everything goes against you. Congrats BYU, make the most of this year, because next year will probably be way different.

If anyone really paid attention during the first three quarters, they would have seen that the majority of bad calls went in Utah’s favor. Stake has more justification for being upset than anyone. I get that Harlan was fired up after seeing his players in the locker room so upset, but his response-as well as the coach’s for turning his back on Sitaki after the game-were definitely examples of what you don’t do when you lose. If you eliminate ALL the bad calls, BYU still would’ve won the game. But kudos to Utah because they were beyond impressive that night. Both teams played well and provided everyone watching-and playing-with a thrilling experience. It’s really sad that it has to be overshadowed by the adverse behavior of a limited view. Way to go Utes! Way to go Cougs!! 🏈❤
