I posted this on Patreon but would like to do so here: While listening to this beautiful chant I ran across this, I don't know if it's true or not or legend or ? The text for the Cherubic Hymn is based on a passage of scripture in the book of Isaiah: And it came to pass in the year in which king Ozias died, that I saw the Lord sitting on a high and exalted throne, and the house was full of his glory. And seraphs stood round about him, each one had six wings, and with two they covered their face, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. And one cried to the other, and they said “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts! The whole earth is full of His glory!” It's beautiful, thank you!

That's not the Cherubic hymn. That's the Sanctus. The cherubic hymn is 6th century and reads "Let us who mysticically represent the cherubim, and who sing the thrice holy hymn, lay aside all early cares that we may receive the king of all who comes invisibly upborn by the angelic hosts alleluia. This was a Troparion based off of Let all Mortal flesh keep silence, a 1st century hymn. This was implemented into Byzantine liturgy by the emperor.

@@someonesomewhere8888 **************But i believe the more correct way to state it is to say that you where baptized Orthodox. But don't forget that there are three main branches of orthodoxy that are not the same... oriental, antiochian, and ethiopian.... each one has subchurches, but they are not the same... for example, the ethiopian orthodox use a bible that has I think 6 or 11 more books in it than the standard orthodox bible which itself has more books than the catholic bible and both have more books than the protestant bible. I know there are liturgical differences as well... but not sure what or how deep they run. I also forgot about the coptic orthodox who are in schism with the other orthodox churches... for 1500 years or so, if I recall... so that is 4 distinct orthodox churches, each with subchurches etc... they are distinct from each other.

B Peperkorn There are no “Churches” born of the “reformation,” there is one Church just as the Father and the Son are one (John 17:21). The one Church is the foundation and the pillar of truth (1 Timothy 3:15) which was purchased by the blood of Christ (Acts 20:28) and is the body and bride of Jesus on Earth (Ephesians 5:22-33) (1 Corinthians 12:27). The One Universal Church was founded by Jesus upon Peter so that the gates of Hell could not prevail against her (Matthew 16:18). As Saint Cyprian of Carthage said, “"There is one God and one Christ, and one Church, and one chair founded on Peter by the word of the Lord. It is not possible to set up another altar or for there to be another priesthood besides that one altar and that one priesthood. Whoever has gathered elsewhere is scattering." The Protestant revolt did not create Churches (only Jesus creates the one Catholic Church) rather it produced only sects and division, true Christianity is found in obedience to Jesus, scripture, and the apostles who established the Catholic Church.

@Niko Bellic It is not a democracy, however the supremacy rather than primacy of Rome goes against all the practices and understanding of the Early Church. As long as the bishop of Rome is Orthodox, and recognizes the other bishops as equals (even though he is the mouthpiece of the other bishops), than those practices will remain as Christ and the Apostles inteded.

And if that isn't the case, I am sure the satanic hymns certainly don't have the holy spirit, but I do enjoy some of them as well. Manuel Chrysaphes Cherubic Hymn is my favorite Cherubic. This is an excellent rendition by Capella Romana... especially since this was performed in a digital recreation of the acoustics of the Hagia Sophia in collaboration with the University of Stanford. If i am not mistaken, this was written a few years after the fall of Constantinople... such a shame. It is quite obvious that such a grandiose melody was composed to take full advantage of the cathedral's acoustics.

I also like the Sretensky Choir Cherubic hymn in Church Slavonic... by Kastorsky. We who mystically represent the cherubim available on KZbin.

Why Catholics don't come back to the Christ's Orthodox Church?
@nasuhero6295 жыл бұрын
As a Catholic, I love orthodox and also want unity. Don't like to see divisions by nation and culture. We need the light of the East revival in every parish. It will take humility on both sides.
