In the very first few seconds of this vid, the mountain behind the airplane is Casper Mountain. That's my home town. My mother was 17 at the time and worked at the Holiday Inn where he stayed. He was a totally rude prick with no basic manners. His on screen characters might have been one "Hell of an American" but the man himself? Meh.

I love watch John Wayne in all his pictures a great actor. But Hellfighters has a special meaning for me. I worked most of my life in the oilfields. I have had experience in well fires and blowouts first hand it's a dangerous buisness. But even more so because I got to witness first hand the handiwork of the man John Wayne portrayed in this picture. Red Adair not more than a mile from where I live one of the biggest blowouts in US history was out of control. Red Adair was called in and it took him awhile but he managed to shut it down. This was in 1967 if memory serves me. I was 8 years old at the time I later became a driller myself 3rd generation of my family to do so. So this movie although highly fictionalized holds something special to me.

This was Great too see, that My Comment Drew interest from Other People similar to My Dad & Myself being Old, Oilfield People. As for Dad He went to Work in the Patch about Late Dec. 1941 right after Pearl Harbor was Attacked. He worked through the War Year's from Illinois, Pennsylvania, to the Dakota's, and eventually Ending up in Wyoming, My Mom's Home State. From His Stories of those Year's, they met in about 1947 or 48 & began Dating until they Married in 1953. Dad was a Wildcatter in those Day's working in A lot of Unproven Field's, or Field's that had limited History of Thier Potential, or the Danger's Also, included with them. Getting Back too the Film 📽️🎥 "Hell Fighters". The particular Well On which My Dad, Experienced His Blow Out Episode, is Due North of Present Day, Worland, Wyoming approximately Eight Miles from Town. Dad told me in Later Year's, of the 1970's. That the Well was afterwards Plugged & Abandoned, because it was a Highly Poisonous Well with 30 - 35 Percent H2S Gas ⛽⛽ contained in it's Structures or Various Zones. That was The Cause of it Blowing Out originally 😃😃. All of that stuff mentioned now? After Seeing the Movie, that Night. He Reminisced with Our Family about How seeing the Duke in the Front of that Hercules Aircraft. Made Him want too Burst Out Laughing 😛😜 in the Theater that Night. Because in His personal introduction too Red Adair, some Year's later. He told Red Over Drink's that Wayne was Way Taller than Red was. From Dad's recollection of the Meeting & Conversation they Shared. Mr RED Adair had Gotten a Big Kick 🦵🦶 & Laugh Out of the Story. I will Say it Now to you All. My Old Man could be A SOB, & a lot of Other things. But He was a True Pioneer in His Field, & a Very Respected Man throughout His Lifetime. His Name Was Paul L Waid, cica 1922-1998 Oil Man & Self made Man. May You RIP Dad. I Still miss You EveryDay 💗😘💗😘😚🙏🙏🙏.

If your curious, the soundtrack, never released, was finally released several years ago on a very limited basis by Intrada. My late Mum and I loved this movie and the music. I bought two copies, for me and her, surprised her on Christmas morning by putting it in her CD changer without telling her. Within two bars she jerked her head up and demanded, "Where did you *get* that?" Over the years we had discussed many times how we'd love to have it. The big, brassy, driving, wide open opening theme reminds me a lot of the opening theme from The Big Country, another great piece of music.

Thank you commenters! I enjoy reading the stories about your family, fathers, sons, brothers, friends and their experiences around both John & Red! As a heavy equipment operator in the 80s, I wanted a seat on a wild well team but a woman ff/heo on a ground team hadn't happened yet until Kuwait 1991. By then I was married and blowing out son #2 lol! Peace be with y'all.

I saw the remains of the first rig that had burned up. It was out of Gillette Wyoming. My fathers Rig Circle A rig 10 was just down the road from it. He had told me that it had been burned on purpose for a movie. Strange thing about all that. He (my father) used to remind me of John Wayne and sounded like him. Also his rig was owned by the Anshultz Company which is one reason the movie was made as Phillip Anshultz had Red Adair putting out one of his fires in the area at that time. It gave Phillip the idea on making some of his money back was to have Hollywood make a movie about fire fighters.

The C-124 Globemaster II was the USAF's primary heavy-lift aircraft until the introduction of the C-141 Starlifter in the mid to late 1960's.
@teenagerinsac
@teenagerinsac 3 жыл бұрын
Globemasters still bore the real heavy lift due to being a nose loader until the C-5 took over-141's could not load a tank or a wide object like the Globemasters could. Globemasters were outmoded as preferred lifter due to its plodding speed of less than half what the Star Lifter flew and far higher as well

@@teenagerinsac I rode on a many of C-141's during my time in the in Force. However, I only flew on a C-5 once - from Osan South Korea to Kadena, Okinawa. Also, I flew on C-17's many times.

Toured this air frame at the air museum of Travis AFB. Went to a medical back-up call one night, when some drunk airmen got inside. One fell from the upper deck to the lower floor. He was not in good shape.

Interesting that in Hellfighters, Vera Miles was John Wayne’s love interest. Yet in The Searchers it is clear John Wayne’s character is too old and her relationship is with Jeffrey Hunter.

My grandma met JW in Casper while filming this movie. She asked him for a autograph for me and he declined because he was in a hurry. This pissed her off and she told him i always liked Burt Lancaster he's a better actor than you..God i miss that women but we always loved the Duke also
