It's about time I actually put some time towards documenting my projects. This one is a bit late, but I hope you enjoy the mediocre build overview I've put together of my current C-17 Globemaster Project. I did my best to explain as much as I could, though, I'm sure I've left out a lot out, so If you have any questions about anything on the build, feel free to ask. Also, I have pictures of all my previous projects, so I'f you'd like a voiced over slide show of those, let the like button know.
Length: 87"/2.2m
Span: 83"/2.1m
Estimate weight: 16lbs/7.27kg
Power system:
(4) FMS 70mm 1900kv 12 blade inrunner edf's
(4) Hobbywing Skywalker V2 80A ESC's
not certain on batteries yet but most likely two 8000mah 6s lipos.

Nice build. Looking forward to seeing the maiden flight. Especially the wing construction is regards to Fowler flaps ect. Retract sequencing, do you use Open Tx or Edge Tx. If not, look into it. Do everything you want through the transmitter, no blue boxes needed. And Hello from New Zealand
@kalvinwinder

Thanks! I don’t use open or edge tx. I could program the sequencing pretty easily through my spektrum NX-10, only problem is it quickly becomes a channel hog, which is why I wanted to use sequencers if possible. Part 2 about the wings coming soon!

@@kalvinwinder Dame, that was a fast response. Thanks man, channel numbers for add up fast. But with a simple 8ch Rx, and Sbus to a channel decoder, can easily get 16 channels. Guessing you're informed of option's available. So I won't board you. Can make set up easier is all

@@kalvinwinder you'll be very surprised. A cheap radiomaster branded radio is very powerful you'll still be able to use all of you existing radio gear as they are multiprotocol. I use a older FrSky X12S, and with a multiprotocol module in the JR bay, can use any Rx . With a FrSky module in the JR bay I can add a further 16 channels. I use this as a redundancy, sending signals on two separate protocol for piece of mind. Of if I choose can use it to expand number of channels. Giving me the possibility of 32 channels. I typically use one channel per servo. I just don't like Y leads, plus you can programme each servo to be matched or not for what purpose needed. It is a lot to program, but once done it's done. Learning the EdgeTx at first is steep, once it clicks it's very intuitive. Plenty of videos on this KZbin about the systems. Hope you enjoy, gives as much power if not more than a expensive Jeti system at a very small price.

@@excellenceinanimation960 Fusion makes it really difficult to convert something into a pdf that can be printed. All my measurements had to be based off small scale screenshots, and measured and scaled accordingly since I haven't found a good way to make plans. Maybe that would be different with a paid subscription, but to my knowledge there's still some other programs you'd need to install in order to do it efficiently.

what resin do you use over the pink foam that doesn't melt it ? Bro this is beyond amazing work, my dream rc plane..just wow, please post updates and flights... how you wire the 4 edf's, what flight controller...everything I can't wait to see more
@kalvinwinder
@kalvinwinder 7 ай бұрын
Thank you! I use just your standard craft casting resin, it's not the most rigid resin available, but it's foam safe and perfect for my application. Nothing fancy required to run 4 edfs, just your typical setup times four. The inboard and outboard fans will run on separate batteries, that way if I lose power to one, I'll still have symmetric thrust and the plane will remain flyable. There's a lot more to come, though it may take a while since I need to make some more progress on the build before I have enough content for another video.

Nice work, and a great video! I was considering a C 17 build as well but the landing gear was a showstopper for me. 70 mm was my preferred size as well. Would you be interested in sharing, or selling your fusion 360 design files for the airframe and the main gear?
@kalvinwinder
@kalvinwinder 7 ай бұрын
Thank you! I am more than happy to share files, though, I would need a good website or format to share them through since there are so many parts. Also since I didn't plan to share them while I was designing it, they aren't currently very organized, so it would take a bit to sort through them and set it up in a way that makes sense. Do you know of any sites that I could upload them to for sharing? Also, one more thing, the design still isn't complete, so a few aspects would be missing if I were to share the entire fusion 360 model.

Wow great work. How do you finish the printed molds?
@kalvinwinder
@kalvinwinder 7 ай бұрын
Thank you! First I reduce the print lines by sanding with 150 grit, and then 220 grit. Next if there's any impurities that need to be addressed from imperfect printing I fill and sand accordingly using spackle. As a bare minimum you can get away with putting the mold release on from here and it works if you want to save time. For a perfect mold however, I'll do 3-5 coats of filler primer, sanding in-between each layer with 320 grit. Then I'll put a coat or two of paint over that to help harden and smooth the surface. It's very time consuming, but it is rewarding when you finish and pop a perfect composite part out of the mold.

Thank you! What aspects of the design would you be interested in? I still have all the files for the molds, hot wire templates, and landing gear, but, there is a lot of them. I'd love to be able to share them, I'm just not sure what format I would have to use in order to do that since there are so many different files.

@@jeeperzcreeperzz It may look off from the images, but it should be a nearly perfect replica, the model was designed and scaled from exact 3-view drawings. The Globemaster has abnormally oversized flight surfaces, which is why it is so capable, and caters so well to an RC model. Though, I don't think we'll do any good by arguing about it.
