Well done guys I have a question about your feed bins why metal not plastic do you keep the food in the bags inside the bins and what size are your metal bins
@carwynharrisracingpigeons93873 жыл бұрын
Hiya Bernard. The bins are probably older than me and do the job just fine so we've kept using them. IKEA do some nice plastic containers/boxes that would do the job. Yes we keep the feed in the bags; it gets less dusty that way and it's also easier to adjust the feed if it's kept separate.

Thanks Graham. They're doing most things right so we're hopeful of a good month of racing from them. All the best 👍

Congratulations on your 2021 Old Bird Race. I have a question about your flooring. I see that you using wood chips. How often do you guys replace it and what kind of maintenance?
@carwynharrisracingpigeons93873 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric. We turn the chips over daily when we clean the boxes. This keeps them dry and stops the excrement from building up. We change them only once a year but top them up if they start to get low. They're Versele Laga wood chips and are an excellent bedding.

Super video, your birds look in great condition and I'm sure will come up with the goods for you over the next weeks. What was the name of the powder you put on the good post race?
@carwynharrisracingpigeons93873 жыл бұрын
Hiya Andrew. We use Backs Protein Plus on the food after the race. You can add it by coating the corn with oil or maybe yogurt. The corn in this clip was coated with Tollyamin Forte from Vet Shroeder Tollisan. This keeps the birds in good condition too.

@@carwynharrisracingpigeons9387 thanks mate that great much appreciated. Could I possibly ask more more question.....on day of basketting whats your routine?
@carwynharrisracingpigeons93873 жыл бұрын
We feed at around 10am on the day of basketing. We generally feed 50% race mix and 50% energy. We feed them again at about 3pm for them to have a drink. In terms of running them together before the race, sometimes we don't, sometimes for 2 minutes and sometimes for 15 minutes. It doesn't make much difference but it stops them becoming bored.

Hi Carwyn great results yet again! I happened to notice when your father put the winning hen back in the section it was quite dark in there, is this something you do with the hens to stop them pairing? Cheers 👍
@carwynharrisracingpigeons93873 жыл бұрын
Hiya Ian. Our lofts are 12 feet deep so are naturally quite dark which the pigeons like as I think they rest better. We don't darken the old birds but lock the hens in the aviary during the day to try to dissuade them from pairing. However we still have 6 hens that have paired together at the moment. They still show to their cocks on race day but we may have to move some into the young bird section so that they 'cool off' a bit.

On the subject of falcons, I was training some latebreds from last year earlier this week and only got too 5 mile up the road and had to watch a peregrine smash the birds too bits. If our birds don’t clear straight away from liberation then their in trouble. Gutting to watch

Hello.. I'm very much passionate for these racing birds.. i have a question.. please answer if possible.. I'm planning to buy a pair of racing bird, can I train only 1 or 2 bird will it come back?
@carwynharrisracingpigeons93873 жыл бұрын
Hi Ranjit. As long as the birds are settled to your loft you should be ok. I would say that you need them flying/exercising around your home loft before you begin to train them. It would be better to start with birds that are under 8 weeks old.

@@carwynharrisracingpigeons9387 can i just get one or two young chick birds and start flying, will they come back or will they just join other birds and go away or should it be hatched In my place? And then only I can fly them.. thank you for responding
@carwynharrisracingpigeons93873 жыл бұрын
You can hatch them in your loft. They will be sure to stay then. Or buy some young pigeons under 6/8 weeks old and settle them to your loft. Good luck!
