C&C Renegade vs Renegade X: Weapon Comparison

Something I've wanted to do for a while now (and much like everything else YT related, I've been slacking off on it). A simple video demonstrating the differences between the arsenal of weapons in C&C Renegade with their Renegade X counterpart. Obviously, original weapons that were added to Renegade X (I.E. Marksmen Rifle, Carbine, etc.) are not covered. Also as a bonus, showing off the official names of the weapons lore wise (or at least according to the wiki). Hopefully y'all enjoy it.

Renegade x does have the GDI tib auto rifle too, its a hidden unit from crate on online server. :)

Mutant Raveshaw or Epic Sydney (Sydney in Zone Trooper armor) depending on faction. They have their usual main gun (railgun, personal ion cannon), but instead of tiberium flechette they have green tiberium rifle with infinite bullets and they can tank a lot.

The best and only real upgrade was the visual effect of the Rail Gun. It's what it should have been in Renegade as it's Ghost Stalker's signature weapon.

Decided to check on c&c renegade on some fond memories I have, rather interesting that there's like an entire new game, it's kind of sad with some of the guns though, I get they scrapped some of the models and sounds for their more realistic counterparts, but half of them are rather underwhelming in how they look/sound, the only one I appreciated was the Nod nuke, that was a major improvement as the hexagonal shape is kind of lame in the original game i'd imagine due to game performance

@@IkeFanBoy64 The lore conflict with that is Tiberium Vinifera was a recently discovered strain as of Renegade (see "All Brains, No Brawn") so it'd be hard to maintain a good supply of ammunition, at least until around 2030 when Vinifera was more prominent.

A lot of guns don't resemble the original if you ask me. Creating something completely different and slapping the same name on it doesn't work for me. The audio of the new ones are generic and it doesn't give me a c&c vibe. It's great to see that people love renegade and are putting so much effort into this. I'm not hating or anything. It's just not for me :)

Still, it's way more fun to play compared to other free online shooters like Call of Duty Warzone and War thunder. It reminds me of the classic battlefield 2142 which was one of my favorite FPS

Unlike the original, it's bad that in Renegade X the weather does not change for a thunderstorm when a satellite approaches. And also the color of the sky does not change to red at the beacon of a nuclear missile

Could be unreal tournament...but no, even those had the spinning rocket launcher. Nest time the BFG shoots purple 🟣 Ps. ALSO this was Canon. This was for VENTING the weapon. Cooling the coil so it won't overheat. A neat mechanic detail. Yours will melt your hands!

The weapon sounds were actually louder, and much more detailed in the previous RenX versions, idk why they nerfed it in the later version. I even tried their Black Dawn singleplayer, the sounds in that game are much more louder then the current MP version.

Think it's more meant to be reminiscent of a proper tactical nuke. Also, I don't 100% know if it's meant to be an airburst since the warhead just goes through the ground after detonation. Given the amount of desync between animations and audio in Renegade, I feel the airburst effect wasn't intended in the original.

I think you have some problems with your original Renegade installation: the Ion Cannon is desynced, weapons don't spawn muzzle flash and the nuke explodes before reaching the ground. I played Renegade a lot when I was a kid and these things caught my attention while watching your video. I have no idea what is causing it, maybe too many FPS?

The old sounds are way better and more of C&C feeling/vibe while the sounds in Renegade X are the same as modern shooter like BF, COD etc As for gun models I rather they just make the old models HD than remaking them something different, Renegade X tiberium auto rifle & personal ion cannon are so lame & generic looking

Well.. Renegade X is based on the Unreal Engine 3. Most of the games that uses UE3 still has a bit of Unreal Tournament 3’s movements and gunplay.

I do like the reworked animations in some weapons showing detail like the Hawkeye Ramjet's integral magazine but the operation feels *completely* wrong from an operational standpoint. It's treated as a straight-pull bolt-action but the bolt is on a spring that brings it back forward so wouldn't it just be more efficient to just have it be a recoil-operated bolt like the M82 platform? Unless of course the ramjet cartridges are so wildcat that the bolt is locked closed to prevent the casing from rupturing.

Lore wise, the rounds are jet propelled, so it's probably a safely precaution. I dunno. I don't know much about the inner workings of firearms.

The SFX could use a lot more meat on most weapons, but you've gotta appreciate how well done all of this is, especially the anims and visual FX. It's not a direct re-make of Renegade, but their own take on it and I respect that.

What the heck is with all rifles in Renegade X? So, after every shot from sniper rifles and even railgun you must pull the bolt manually? Railgun just throws metal stuff into the target, but that bolt action makes no damn sense! Laser chaingun recoil is kinda... out of place. Yes, laser HAS recoil, but not THAT much. It looks more like a woman with machinegun from "Armour of God 2: Operation Condor". Electrogun in Renegade X gives me that eerie feeling, that gun actually electrocutes user instead. Effects of old Ion Cannon were just like in Akira.

The Hawkeye in Renegade X is nonsensical. It reloads as a tube magazine gun, in a gun without tube… They shove 5 rounds directly in the chamber… was it hard to just give it a magazine?

Yeah Renegade X looks to be only on the surface to be faithful. All the weapons look... like washed out versions of the actual game's. Like they're clearly modern equivalents but more... inspired from rather than actually faithful and dedicated to the game they originated from. All the classic, distinctive sound cues have been washed out and largely removed, and everything is more reminiscent of "modern shooter with C&C flavor" rather than "C&C Renegade faithful remake"

Ppl here complaining about how "the guns dont sound like the original!" Cannot, CANNOT, tell me, that the original sounds were in any way like...really good or ground breaking. You fire the laser rifle on full auto and tell me "yep this will never get old!" You're crazy. This is a fan remake, with a lot of sorely needed updates, Renegade is at the very least a dated game, and the new sounds seem just fine, they feel realistic and punchy. Granted it'd be nice to know what someone is shooting at you from sound alone but, not when it's sounding as obnoxious as the laser chain gun...

I really like most of these, only 3 I think are bad would be flamethrower, chem thrower and volt. X flamethrower model looks worse than original and all 3 X versions firing animations look worse than originals. Especially the flamethrower. Though the volt firing animation looks janky in original to. I think it’s less of the fault of the original and mod animators and more so games technical limitations. Aside from those the rest are a very nice looking improvement.

@@BreadApologist I honestly love the Volt Auto Rifle. The secondary ability is actually pretty cool. I can get why you may not like it. The chamber not being teaming with electricity does make it lose points (even if it makes more sense)

Like I said idk if its really anyones fault on the animations for firing or just the game itself. Also really like the removal of the god forsaken puke green overlay in the scopes. Ren x is better but both seem to be using stock sound effects. At least ren x is a fan momoand thats forigeable. I would just go to a gun range in the US or borrow guns and copy those sounds and then feed them to an AI model to make them sound better or beefier.

Old sounds are much better, new ones is not realistic and overall not fit big guns. People who made sound design probably never shoot. Minigun was so so, but new is just a joke, wtf is that?
