I somehow only just recently discovered that Tiberian Sun was released as freeware almost 10 years ago. I downloaded it and played some campaign and some skirmishes vs AI. Almost 20 years ago, when the game first came out, my favorite thing was to build a bad ass base, complete with paved concrete and walls and static defenses... it looks cool as hell, but you can't get away with that in multiplayer XD

Man I use to play the crap out of this game almost two decades ago when I purchased it new. I use to play a pretty awesome defense with GDI Bombers. Every two or three bombers I would tag with a hotkey 1-9 and then I had multiple waypoints all over the map. I would apply them all to defense and micromanage them with my hotkeys for offense. Fun times~!

For those wondering why no one is using NOD, pretty much the only thing NOD has going for it in Tiberian Sun was some cheesy Stealth units (That are almost useless vs pros) and Artillery. And the expansion gave GDI comparable artillery. GDI units are almost all better in straight-on combat, so everyone uses them.

The only thing that make it hard is the titans and mammoths. NOD are superior if you know how to play them. The biggest downside of NOD is the weak af flame tank (if compared with the op one from dawn). Also, if you play firestorm, the reapers are freaking great addition.

I modded the crap out of this game ever since I was in middle school. If I ever get the chance to recreate it and release it, I will. I pretty much made it more like RA2 in terms of the veterancy system, plus a large number of tweaks. I remember playing on WOL back in the day, as well. The World Domination Tour. I wasn't great back then but even now I could jump into a game and be right at home.

Nice! I've only played those completely clean infinite money and instant build custom maps. Reminds of one game probably 15 years ago, when I was still on 56K modem and played a 2vs2 on one of those maps, one of my last online matches actually. My "ally" was a complete noob and didn't grasp the concept and fought me as well. Well, of the little he did, because he was obliviously new to the game altogether. I had to instruct him, and eventually he allied with me, but then he got smashed. So it was me against two experienced. I stood my ground for several hours and actually took the initiative in the end. But then I had to quit. Too bad. Really good game for me. I think I never played TS online after I got broadband early 2003.

@@Squee7e yeah, they seem to have serious problems focusing when managing 1 base + a single attack. there's some poor decision making here, not the least of which is still playing ts... i've seen it in kane's wrath, too--most of the players seem to do so due to an inability to move on, and this extends mentally to their overall ability to manage complex strategies down to the minute detail. i'm not saying they're bad, mind you, i'm saying they're not in the top 1% of all rts players, and that gap is more significant than 90 to 99% & i used to play the game a lot, you know, over a decade ago. i'm aware of how hard it is to manage multiple bases and fronts. they can't handle one of each. i could, and i easily wasn't in the top 1% for ts, which puts them at best in the top 5% of rts overall when you look at what other people are doing in other competitive scenes.

Maybe the modern engine changes some things but I remember a few things from back in the day: 1.)NOD has cheap rocket infantry that would have prevented all the flying around the map nonsense. 2.) Firestorm defense shield would prevent all the bombing runs. 3.) no engi rushes? seriously? there were huge open holes right into the heart of both bases. capture the full silos and construction yard and sell them!

We have patches available for all the games. Choose the game, then select "View All Downloads" and download the patch for the Ultimate Collection. Even though C&C1 and Red Alert are somewhat working without the patches it's still recommended to patch these two games too. Objectively, yes Their air power is nowhere near comparable to GDI, stealth is useless against pro players, and artillery was nerfed to the ground.

Considering the number #1 tactic in Tib Sun is to spam infantry, then turtle-up into aerial unit mass - and the Disc Thrower is better than the Rocket Trooper, and the Orca Bomber is way more destructive than the Banshee - that's why. Not that the Rocket Infantry and Banshee are bad, they just aren't amazing like the other two are. Nod did have artillery, but as mentioned it got nerfed. Else Nod followed a similiar strategy with massing infantry, then turtling up into artillery mass. Considering Nod totally dominated GDI in Tib Dawn though, I suppose it was GDI's turn this go-around.

No, it's Mammoth. Was called the Mammoth Mk.2 in Tib Sun (though technically it must have been at least the Mk.3 considering RA1 and C&C1...). The name "Mastadon" wasn't used until C&C4 (ugh, although it was a cool unit in that). Personally, I think they should have enabled GDI's Mammoth Tanks in Tib Sun for fluffiness and renamed the Mammoth Mk.2 to Mastadon, retroactively. Same way I believe they should have retconned RA1 Mammoth Tanks into Apocalypse Tanks for the name; But I'm sure there would be plenty of people in the community that would protest. I loved Westwoodf, but if only they hadn't thought they needed to re-use the names for the sake of it, even when it didn't make sense for the timeline, or fit, to begin with.

Tiberian Sun is not a game where you build a unit-ball that you move around the map. You have to always have a lot of defense spread throughout your whole base to defend against disruptor drops or subterranean attacks. You can't group your units in one spot because they will get wrecked by bombers. Watch some "Tiberian Sun Adventure" POV videos to get an understanding about the game flow.

The gameplay itself is good they know what they are doing, I just can never watch a full video of “pro” play, no cool looking bases or building an army or putting units on a patrol to make it seem alive, building the same refinery 100 times just seems bland, I mean no offence, just a different preference in fun, come the remaster, I’m gonna make some epic bases!

In my opinion, Tiberian Sun + Firestorm and Tiberium Wars + Kane's Wrath are excellent games in their own way. Unique but identifiable as Command & Conquer games! But CnC 4 was just totally trash!
