LaLiga 2022/2023 Matchday 29 (April 15, 2023) Nuevo Mirandilla Stadium - Cádiz CF vs Real Madrid.
Cádiz CF may not be a very well-known team in the world. It's normal since it's a club that hasn't reached the First Division many times and has never had great success. But in terms of its fans, they are some of the most popular in Spain. They are recognized for their sense of humor and above all for their unconditional support, especially in the toughest moments when the club has been in lower divisions. It's not often that you get to see a great team like Real Madrid play in their stadium. Cádiz was fighting to avoid relegation and Real Madrid was fighting for the league title. Without a doubt, a special occasion. For some time now, it has become a tradition to sing a song that is considered an anthem although it's not the official one (in fact, there is even another one for its centenary). This song is special because it's a pasodoble from the carnival group of Manolo Santander (R.I.P.) that year was called "La familia Pepperoni". In Cádiz, the carnival and the carnival groups' competition is a very important tradition for the city. In this competition, not only do they sing, but their lyrics vindicate the feeling, the problems, the joys, the humor... and this pasodoble (this is how this type of song is known) sung in the 1998 competition captivated by how it described the feeling of the Cádiz fan like never before, and has endured as a symbol of union among its fans and in the Gaditanian feeling... May Manolo Santander rest in peace (1962-2019).
Lyrics (spanish):
Me han dicho que el amarillo
está maldito pa’ los artistas,
y ese color, sin embargo,
es gloria bendita para los cadistas.
que aunque reciben a cambio
todo un calvario de decepciones,
de amarillo se pintan la cara,
amarillo son sus corazones.
Han dado su vida y sus gargantas,
siguiendo a donde haga falta
al Cádiz de sus amores,
Ratatatata ratatatata
benditos sean los que llenan de esperanza,
ratatatata ratatatata
cada rincón, cada escalón de mi Carranza
Sin importarles que nunca,
vayan a ser campeones
han conseguido el respeto,
de toda España, por estos colores.
Por eso viva mi Cádiz,
vivan los cadistas,
vivan sus cojones
Lyrics (english):
"Someone told me that yellow
is cursed for artists,
but that color, however,
is blessed glory for the cadistas.
Although they receive in return
a whole ordeal of disappointments,
they paint their faces in yellow,
yellow are their hearts.
They've given their lives and their throats,
following wherever it's necessary
for the Cádiz of their loves,
Ratatatata ratatatata
blessed be those who fill with hope,
ratatatata ratatatata
every corner, every step of my Carranza
Without caring that they will never,
become champions
they have earned the respect,
of all Spain, for these colors.
That's why long live my Cádiz,
long live the cadistas,
long live their balls."
I know it may sound strange to say 'long live their balls', but it's an expression that when translated sounds quite literal. It's a phrase used to recognize someone's courage. As for 'Carranza', it's the previous name of the stadium, now known as 'Ramón de Carranza'.
