C'est La Vie (Emerson, Lake & Palmer Cover) - Robert Wagenhoffer

In my opinion, this is a tricky song to play. You need to really arch your left hand to get the notes to ring out and also keep the palm of your right hand off the body of the guitar while you picking. The dropped bass run on the Dm chord during the bridge is very difficult. I can play it properly on my electric guitar, but not the acoustic. For this recording, I cheated on this part and played the bass run using a Staccato technique instead of letting the bass notes ring out. When I try to play it properly using my Acoustic Guitar, the top notes are anything but clear.
For the recording, all I used was some compression, EQ, a preamp and reverb. On the original ELP recording, a 12 String Guitar was used. To get around this, I doubled my acoustic track and raised the pitch up one octave. I then added a 100mS tape delay to try to simulate the time it takes to for the pick to hit each of the doubled strings on a 12 String guitar. I think it sounds pretty good and it was minimal effort to do.
By the way, this audio was adjusted 0.5 semitone down after it was completed, you guess why…
