Plaxico Burress did the same thing in 1999 when he fell down after the catch without being touched he spike the ball which turned into a fumble cause u have to be touched to be considered down.

I always wondered how the transition was for these first year players from not having to tackle if they were already on the ground or touch them at least. I’m sure they go over that in camp but those first couple of games it’s probably hard to break that habit of he’s down so the play is over
