You’re absolutely right. When people get obsessed with comparing singers, they stop taking the time to watch each of them at different times with an objective eye. They lose the ability to appreciate what each of them can do individually. And that’s a damn shame and it’s their loss.

Keep in mind that she was going through her illness for over a decade at that point, and as you know, it affects her vocal cords. And she was able to deliver top-notch performances in spite of that. Even though she had some struggles here or there. It also tells you why she was lip-synching some of her performances. She wasn’t just obsessed with preserving her voice, but it was helpful whenever she was having those spasms that affected her voice. Incredible.
