@bicyclethief2nd hi mate, I will look into this!! I also have plans to check out any material for a possible GIABO track.. STFU David Cameron is proving a bit tricky to release due to sample clearance, legal stuff etc... but Max's camp is being very co-operative and helpful so I think we might very well succeed in getting it released!

Hi Dude A very big Thank You for posting these backings to the 7 modes. Thanks for posting two examples of each. I love jamming with them, my students love them too. When you've time, please post more. They are seriously addictive! The time length is perfect too. luv from London

I wanted to thank you for generously sharing licks and backing tracks for all us guitarist. I feel that one way I can master the guitar or any instrument for that matter is to get a great perspective of "Modes" and know every note and every scale possible for every key. Which is why I thought I practice 1 key a week atleast an hour a day and do one of the 7 modes a day. Ionian Mondays, Dorian Tuesdays, Phrygian Wensdays, etc so I won't get bored. =)

Yes. In modern western music the diatonic scale tones in any key signature are used to build; scales, arpeggios and chords. Each scale degree C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C. becomes the tonic of the new scale mode who's intervals will determine the chord type Maj, minor, Dominant etc.
@gannonb4u12 жыл бұрын
Mixolydian scale is a V Chord. built from the 5th scale degree of a key signature. Example; in CMaj (no sharps or flats ) the V Chord is a G7th chord GBDF. You can use a G7th b9th, G7th #9, G7th b5, G7th #5, G13TH. You can justify playing almost any chord from music once you know the relationship of the key signatures, the context the chord is being used in, the spelling of the chord and your ears.

You have the best backing tracks on you tube. Thank you.
@gannonb4u12 жыл бұрын
Chords are built upwards in intervals of thirds from the tonic note of the scale you are using.Example;in key of CMaj(no #'s or b's) the II Chord from scale degree D=Dorian Mode Scale is =D E F G A B C. If the beginning note of the scale is D as the tonic(root of the chord), to make the 4 part chord use the 1st 3rd 5th 7th scale tones (DFAC).The interval is the distance between notes which determines the chord type.In this example the interval between D & F is a minor 3rd so the Chord is D minor

Wow, are you a teacher? You sure. Know a hell of a lot about it and this was 11 years ago. Man, if I were to found this then I would have road ride bike. Not paid any attention for me. Poor me, I know, but I'm sounding it now. My Jones for Mr. Quist's. Is heavy

@@JohnTimothy-m8x Yes. Knowledge of music theory is essential. The more tools you have in your toolbox the more creative in your improvising you can play.

Try this. Use a four note scale to jam over this groove. Use the tones of the C major chord (C E G) and one other note. For instance: Use C D E and G only. Jam through the whole recording using these notes in various places on the neck. Then use C E G and A only. Purposely limiting yourself to only four notes will have you creating new melodies that you may not have played if you used the entire scale. Try C E F G and C E G B. Happy jamming!

I find that these jam tracks are great for blowing off a little steam over 1 or 2 chords in the same key however they do nothing for the understanding and interpreting of standard tune jazz chord progressions when the songs chord progression modulates between different key signatures. I use to lay down my own backing tracks with many choruses of entire tunes (like; "I've Found a new Baby" or "There Will Never Be Another You") and improvise over that.

I was really feeling down because i didn't know how to get where i wanted with modes. I knew i should use backing tracks but all of them were stale. I felt myself going through the same licks without paying attention to my phrasing. But these tracks are fucking amazing and really helped me break out of my rut.

Actually, the ionian mode isn't equal to the Major scale or Mode at all, the difference between these where in the fact that the Ionian mode chords are "linked" by ascendant 3ds or 5ths, this means, "weak links"-maybe you (in english) call it with other name-. The major mode can also use weak links but the difference is the strong and super strong links, (5ths and 3ds down and 2ds) .Example: G - C (5°down -strong link). You use the IV, so between F -> C is a 5th upper, but C to F is a 5th down

Auguri. Gregorio

i just started learning all my scales, right now putting a lot of focus on the major pentatonic, and trying to memorize every position going up the neck. How to you go about creating your own licks? Every time I I jam on backing tracks I just end up playing a lot of single notes and find myself just going up and down the scales a lot lol. Tips?
