Is there an advantage to using task groups and packages instead of regular missions beyond just organization?

Yes. But you have to use the ATO panel to really use this thing at its best potential. For example, you can assign in a general area some units to attack stationary high value targets and others to do interdiction (which means destroying moving units like convoys or supply columns) all in a single mission. And that's just a tiny fraction of the many things you can do using packages with ATO
