I hate to break it to the fans of the newer Dir en Grey (drop C# Standard & 7 String arrangements), but playing in E Standard gives Kyo just so much more headroom for his vocal range to flourish. In these older songs, Die just sounds soooo much tighter in a higher register too. I miss this energy, thank you for uploading the classic tracks!!!

although i still prefer the 2009 version. i agree with you. in this version on livestage he can be experimental and use whichever he want in standard E tuning, some good example is the last 1st version live in 2009 Feast of V Senses at Citta Club Kawasaki (kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJPJfpSJmpV4gtk at 1:22:52) he used more growl and still fit. in 09 (isn't 09 version drop A#? cmiiw) because it's very influenced by deathcore it's like "follow the standard with some tweaks". but still i like all three versions. even tho i prefer 2009 version (because my ears are really used to deathmetal) but hey it's still Zan. the song that makes me fan of Dir

@@kyengrey I like the 09 version as well, I'm just an old head that grew up importing the first couple records, so I'm definitely biased in that regard. Once they started focused harder on that deathcore sound, and when DSS came out I was pretty much checked out by Withering to Death, still a very tight band - just not my favorite flavor. I think watching Mode of Gauze tour from in 2016 or w/e, I kinda cemented that opinion, all that classic experimental alt rock stuff just sounds so good, they're so good at it. Hearing Kyo actually sing the majority of his songs without any vocal fry and sounding better than ever, that's my favorite "era" of the band. And if I want to twist the knife a bit, I feel as if they threw Die's melodic style of playing to the side for Kaoru's style of staccato modern metal rhythms. When I listen to those first 3 albums, Die's the one playing all these melodies and fast funk percussive riffs over Kaoru's palm muted and power chords - feel like that whole dynamic of playing off each other is gone entirely. Great band though, love em to death and still look for what's new every once in a while.

@@kyengrey I really dislike the original version, studio recorded and early Zan live. The only "live variation" of OG version I loved is the 2009 V Sense tour. Blitz 5 days Zan performance was the second behind this, but still lacking something. The 2009 Zan remake is the best version of all 3, both studio recording and live performance. 2024 remake is just okay.

@@m_acg the OG 2009 Feast of V Senses live is my fav live too. not only they brought it up with current style but also the crowd was all out and going wild (thanks to male only concert, this song is actually fit for all out moshing). 04 Blitz i kinda didn't like it. Shinya bogged down the tempo. this version sounds great in live but still the 2009 Feast of V Senses is much better for me because of crowd & atmosphere. but my for track version i always Zan 2009 is my first fav over both versions (OG and 2024).
