I was there for at least 2 excursions out of NJ to Port Jervis with Engine 614. So exciting !!!!

I was up there got either this one or the previous weekend’s runs. Will never forget it. They had it double heading with a SuzyQ Mikado the day I was there.

It's a shame that C&O 614 is no longer in operating condition anymore as this was a handsome and enjoyable steam locomotive to observe in operation. The C&O rr had an attractive roster of 12 J3 class 4-8-4 type locomotives and these engines were among my favorite types of 4-8-4 engines that were built by Lima locomotive works back during the steam era. I really want the 614 to be restored and returned to operation in the future as I really admire this locomotive.

Hopefully when Ross Rowland the man who runs 614 gets the proper permission we may see it running yet again, Edit 614 is now being restored

I’m more worried about who will get it after Ross Rowland Dies. If a museum gets it, then it will never be restored to operation
@GMan9029 Жыл бұрын
@@HuntOfficial1776 I'd rather a museum get it than Ross Rowland continuing to own it.

You never know. A lot of people didn't think N&W 611 would ever come back after 1994, and a number of folks thought it was doomed again after Amtrak stopped allowing excursions out of Roanoke. Though difficult challenges were encountered, both times they were wrong. 611's return and ability to find new places to run on is proof that her C&O "cousin" may still have hope. I just saw the Greenbrier the other day in Clifton Forge, that old gal looked like she might have some life left in her, but time will tell.

The 614 is parked in Clifton Forge, VA . I believe it was purchased by WV governor Jim Justice and painted green with gold trim. He planned to make trips from DC to the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV. I believe the liability was too much for the railroad to let it run on their rails. We can’t have steam trains, but the Amtrak just wrecked last month and it’s supposed to be safe.

I was at the Turntable last month. There's a couple of passenger cars from the Greenwood Lake route and an old Diesel that looks like it still runs.

My father was watching all of this and told me that they were doing the runbys for a photo shoot. The burned so much coal that they ran out and had to be towed back to Hoboken. It was great to see and hear this old train.

Although C&O 614 does normally carry a whistle tuned to sound like a K5LA, this is definitely a SP 6 chime

It's actually a custom whistle built by Bob Swanson which has the tuning of a K5LA. They have practically the same notes, but a SP 6-chime is much mellower.

It only wore the K5LA inspired whistle on Chessie. Whistle in the video is an SP 6.

No, it looks much better!😊 The differences: Sand dome in front of the water dome Headlight is pilot-mounted High pilot deck Solid “cowcatcher” Makes for a very “brawny” look the NKP and PM locos lacked. But all still very classic in their look.

But then again, #614 is an Advisory Mechanical Committee design; that group also designed the NKP and PM Berkshires.

They had added the cars to allow for all of the people who wanted to go in the excursion run. Of course if you wanted to ride in the vintage cars you had to pay more.
