CS Lewis's biographer A.N. Wilson goes in search of the man behind Narnia - best-selling children's author and famous Christian writer, but an under-appreciated Oxford academic and an aspiring poet who never achieved the same success in writing verse as he did prose.

The thing that amazed me, reading the Narnia books as a child, was that this grownup actually got childhood RIGHT. Most adult authors simply don’t recall what being a child was like.

I've studied theology all my life and have a degree in theology. Narnia has been one of those stories that goes so much deeper than what is on the page. He got childhood, he understood children. He was so immensely influential to my studies of theology. He grounded my studies and pulled it together for me in a most unique and personal way. I come back to Narnia often when times are confusing or difficult. And I come navy to Narnia because Lewis understands humanity. Lewis understands our relationship with God.

I must respectfully disagree. Christianity has so very little correct. I left it because of all its lies. Went back to my maternal grandmothers Hebrew religion. And even they are full of lies but at least I know the book says HE is coming to save them and anyone that would join with them. Anything beyond that is a lie. Respectfully.

@@serpentines6356 I think it was that he showed the way. It isn't ritual. It isn't words. It is how we behave, act, treat one another. My dad said that no matter what we believed we should have our own personal code that we live by. I have met people who didn't believe in God who's lives were an example of a personal code of caring for others and the world around them. I believe we are all brothers and sisters.

@@damogranheart5521 Everyone living by their "own personal code" creates chaos, and a breakdown of society. There needs to be a grounding of values to make society not fall apart. In our culture that is the Judeo- Christian tradition. Haven't you noticed the more our society becomes less religious, the crazier it's getting? Individuals can be"atheist" or whatever, but there needs to be an agreed upon value system that glues our society together.

He had such a moving stories and has gone through so many trials in his life. It is so inspiring that he kept his faith through the hard time. Narnia always has and will have a special place in my life. It gave me a understanding of faith that remains with me years after reading narnia. the greatest news ever! ⬇️ In the very beginning of time God created all & it was good, His plan was to have Him & His creation live in utopia. the satan deceived God’s creation so that wouldn’t happen, we choose evil. Evil has its consequences, death & hell separation from God for eternity is the consequence for disobeying an everlasting God. God doesn’t want that for any of His creation so He sent His Son Jesus(God in the flesh) & Jesus lived the perfect life. Died the death as a criminal, & resurrected, all so that we could have eternal life if we have faith in His beautiful sacrifice. This is God’s plan!

I salute you! I guess many of us seem to be attracted to the same authors then. I was first introduced to CS Lewis by the late, great Ravi Zacharias or possibly as a small boy watching a part of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" on TV. My life was an oddity by any measure. Like Rudyard Kipling, I was partly raised overseas in Europe, British culture came barreling at me as a small boy and I found myself becoming a fan of British authors. My dad was military and suffered from PTSD so getting out of the various places I lived at and walking the family dog down that old belgian cobblestone road to the next town over was quite formative. I started writing as a teenager and finally stopped in my early 40's. Frankly making a living leaves me little time to "live in the library" which ironically, I have tried to do as a teenager! Yes, I do strongly identify with Kipling and CS Lewis because I understand what they were searching for and trying to escape. I find myself in the mountains of Colorado, almost walking in my Grandfather's foot steps. Perhaps I will publish something, someday....God Bless you!

Thanks so much. Jack was such a loving man who walked the talk, supporting people that he could have just said that's to bad and gone on with his life. That is such a blessing to know. I have a new found respect for Jack although I have always thought well of him before that. He is a treasure and has made such a difference in so many peoples lives and conveying Christ to a lost world, especially at this time in our world. Praise God for him. Thanks for the upload.

the greatest news ever!
