Silence after being insulted is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of inner strength. When you remain silent, you maintain control of your emotions and do not let others control you. Reacting immediately often leads to regret and unnecessary conflict. Controlling your emotions and responding with purpose shows maturity and self-respect. Focus on what is important, do not let the insult derail your goals and values. Self-respect is your true strength.

Im 70 yo baby of an abusive family and was bullied in schools and at home, and on jobs, too. Always treated mean people nice, but was never respected by anyone. It is still happening now, sadly. i feel guilty all my life, when i stood up for myself. I have had terrible rage inside though. And blew a gasket many times. I try to always do good to others, but they often dont respect me at all. It hurts so much to always turn the other cheek, and do as Christ said, and doing good to the people who do not respect me.

@garyma... It sounds as if you NEVER really respected yourself first. I had to learn that lesson which turned it all around (i.e. the 'disrespectors' disappeared over time...until I clearly awoke to the connection). I changed my focus.... As I grew in conscious self-respect/ internalized self-love, self-esteem, to this degree, the conflicts lessened & lessened until I noticed this finally happening. Funny, I too am a 70 yo who is the "baby" of my family. And, I lived through similar dynamics--and locked myself into a 'victim mode'. But, I held the key in my own mind and heart and hand all the while. And, finally 'got it', opened that door in my heart & released all the pain & anguish. At this age I can fully claim self love and that is tremendous inner strength, for which I have immense awe & gratitude for such Grace. If it happened to one-- moi-- it can happen to YOU! ✌🙌 P.S.Contemplation, Meditation, Prayer were game changers. And, coming upon the work (books, website) of Alice Miller was a great gift that arrived when I was fully ready to let go of the Victim & take full responsibility for my own welfare. All the best for the rest, Gary!

It wasn't by words but by looks (by 2 people,) even though the sister of the person who passed hugged me and thanked me for coming, and the 2 people's husbands hugged me and said it was nice to see me. Their adult kids were very polite, they sat at the table with me when we sat down to eat we all had a lovely conversation and hugged me at the end. With the rude person who approached you I would have smiled and stayed where I was, but thats just me.

As lawlessness increases the heart of many will grow cold as evident today. you must pray daily for the Holy Spirit to strengthen you, and give you discernment when and how to respond and when to walk away. Yes, in that verse, it calls on us to practice what is being stated here and to rightly discern each situation. “Answer not a fool according to his folly, less you be like him yourself. Answer a fool according to his folly, less he be wise in his own eyes.” Prov 26:4-5 This proverb requires us to judge with right judgment the situation because there are times we are to answer back to correct a fool, and other times we are not to answer back at all because we will join him in his foolishness.

Went through the loss of family that took me to a dark place out of it came a total different mindset that thus far has been unshakable. For a while I thought the difference was due to not caring about anything anymore but as time went on I realized that once I had hit an all time low there wasn’t anything above that that could move me. I say less and feel less attached to things that I once made matter. Having a peace of mind where the mind being silent is something I hope all get to experience. Well, I've been staying calm and quiet trying to understand the root of why a leader kept being disrespectful to me publicly, literally belittling me among my peers and subordinates. However, the unwarranted behavior continued and even influenced other team members, triggering a disrespectful attitude from them as well. It all came to a head recently and I literally erupted. Everyone appeared shocked and to summarize, the leader is now seeking conflict resolution, acting ignorant about the disrespect, and apologizing profusely🙄. But honestly, I'm done. I believe keeping quiet can sometimes be enabling a toxic behavior towards you. In addition not responding immediately left me feeling so unsure about myself and feeling distracted and frustrated. In some cases, I feel it's necessary to nip some abusive behavior (like public disrespect) in the bud, IMMEDIATELY and PUBLICLY, to avoid a repetition from the culprit and others, especially in the workplace environment. People and environments/ situations are different and so a one size fit all response may not always apply. Wisdom is profitable to direct. (Ecclesiastes 10:10)

When I thought my loved ones thought the worst of me, it surprised me to realize that it was me thinking the worst of them. Every real wrong done to me plus the perceived wrongs born of my imagination, piled up on top of me, each new hurt another brick weighing down deeper and deeper until all was so dark and lonely around me. The light began to filter through as I remembered Christs love for each and every one of us is equally doled out. I then began to dole out faith in others, choosing to believe that they are not thinking the worst of me. If there is solid evidence, from the words they say to me, I can know that I am ok and can lose nothing of myself, because I am equal in value to everyone. Jesus tells me so, and His love sets me free. I see through my eyes differently. I have been learning to look at others through a lens of light. The darkness is falling away. I read His words and keep His words upon my heart.

I tried that approach of "turning the other cheek." I did and just got smacked down on the other cheek. I had to dig deep within myself and look to my ancestors grief and stories. I feel some of them with me especially my beautiful daughter who passed away in her sleep on Christmas. I went to the dark night of the soul and coming out of that is just scary. Thanks to all of you who help us cope. We all need each other.

Someone else commented that I had assumed they hadn't already done that. I said "what's your problem with me suggesting for someone to read the WORD before giving up." This other person said that he had read the b8ble 2 times already my next comment would have been. "Maybe your not hearing his voice. But this video came up and I thought better of it.

I felt a heaviness that I believe is from this level of maturity and even with prayer it was just sitting there on me. I know we don't need white candles to pray but I put two on the floor and prayed harder on the ground and it helped. God is a chain breaker. Still being pruned to release the ego, hurt, and anger. But God is teaching me to separate people's physical self from their spirit and that people are often speaking and acting from ego. I fear and respect God above all and He sees all. We're maturing as God's children.

I always REMIND MYSELF that the battle is SPIRITUAL...Eph 6:12...remaining composed and praying and letting The LORD fight our battles...that confuses the devil, when he doesn't see us react. We just be detached and polite. Let FATHER GOD handle that person. They will not continue if you stay calm & smiling...but you MUST be praying in the Spirit so you don't become bitter. FOCUS ON JESUS ALWAYS!!

I believe this is truly good advice. Just a caution that you don't want to internalize the pain the disrespect caused tho, silently hold a grudge. This is very toxic, so what to do with the hurt if you are a sensitive person? You can walk away but how do you let it go from the inside?

It is Okay to Stand up for ourselves, Not everyone subscribes to the Golden Rule, and you have to address it with wisdom. At times, if need, have these Bullies (family or Foe) arrested for any offence, abuse, file a grievance (job). However, do Not subject ourselves to anyone abusiveness, which we were taught by our parents.

I’ve been disrespected all my life. I’ve come to understand that it’s bc of the Jesus in me. If they hated Him. They’ll hate me too. It hurts. But when I understand that the person sowing discord is in need of prayer, I can lift them up and heal.

I am listening a lot today on these type of encouraging messages, but I realize I have been a people pleaser all of my life and I do mean all of my life. I was bullied in school as someone commented. I was told by a older girl when I was little that God created people like me for other people to bully, and I believed her, so therefore, I walked in the shadows of her lie seems the nicer. I am to people the more they take advantage of me and I stand in the mirror and I ask God Lord what do I look like? What am I doing? I see other people that they don’t treat them like. What am I looking like, I asked the Lord to please help me. This is my heart speaking because it hurts.

"Qui tacet consentire videtur". He/she who is silent is understood to concede. Silence is interpreted as defeat, NEVER allow yourself to be bullied or forced into submission. Always put those that have stepped out of line back in their place, calmly, and confidently. You're not doing anyone any favors by allowing abusive a-holes to mistreat others with impunity.

This is a great word! 💪🤗 Thanks for sharing. Very important for us as Believers. Following this advice will take away a huge landing strip for the enemy’s attacks in our life. Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;- James 1:19 A little after the 21 minute mark, he talks about encountering people in life that push your buttons. I love what Dan Mohler says- "if someone is pushing your buttons, get rid of your buttons. If someone is getting on your nerves, get new nerves." The level of offense we walk with in life is directly correlated to how well we are walking with the Lord. If someone is disrespecting us, that is a clear sign they are not walking closely with the Lord. So who do they need? They need Jesus. Where does He live? Inside of us. They need us to love them and point them to Jesus, not react like all the other people in their life that don't know Jesus. And a great reminder for all of us- none of this is about us anyway, but Him and His glory!
