Dude, Seth, I really didn't want to watch a half hour video on C-stands but I watched the entire thing. SO HELPFUL! This was amazing and I can't believe how many uses a C-Stand has. You taught me invaluable skills. I definitely wasn't using it properly, but I will now! Thanks so much.

Best demonstration of C stands. Thank you! I appreciate the repetition on why little knobs on left, big knobs on right. I finally understand why this is imperative to make sure the big knobs are on the right when you have the light at the end. No one has made it this clear. Excellent instruction. Thank you!

Duuuuuddee!!! I have owned and used C-stands for years…but I didn’t know some of these things. This is huge! The part about the little knobs on the left and the big knobs on the right, makes total sense. Also I’ve been using the wrong end to mount my lights (smooth end and not the knuckle with a baby pin) there’s always something new to learn in photography even for veterans. Thanks so much for the great info! (Oh and I’m buying some of those junior to baby pins to make low floor stands)

I've been a hobbyist photographer for 11 years now and I'm always scouring YT for useful informational vids to better learn the craft. It's rare when I stumble upon something useful and I found this to be immensely informative. Seth is my new favorite person on YT! I remember years ago learning about the weight on the correct side so that it tightens the grip arm over the center column if too heavy, but I've since forgotten and it makes perfect sense now that I'm using C-stands more often. LOVE the techniques for holding reflectors/foam core boards!! Even though everyone else does it, do not...repeat: DO NOT attach monolight to the rod portion of the grip arm. Always use the knuckle with a 5/8" baby pin. Intuitively it just made sense, but now you've given me solid validation. Do you have a similar vid for using super boom arms safely?
@LastXwitness Жыл бұрын
thanks so much appreciate all the kind words! i have an articulating arms video on my channel but not a dedicated boom or grip arm video yet no sorry
@harpenfluit11 ай бұрын
Even better, imho consider using light stands when you want to mount a light, as they are more stable overall. A C-stand is the second-best option if you can't use a light stand. C-stands are better suited for supporting cutters, flags, boards, etc.

This is fabulous. I've just recently started moving toward off-camera flash and trying to educate myself about studio lighting. So of course that takes you to light stands which takes you to C-stands. Looking at a picture of a grip head is like trying to read ancient Egyptian. This is the first comprehensive lesson I've seen going from base to riser to grip head to boom arm. Thank you!

I wish someone had told me this decades ago. I had to learn all of this by trial & error. Mostly error. Because mistakes make for excellent learning opportunities. LOL When someone does something wrong, and they get away with it…no correction is apparently necessary. OTOH…when something fails and/or falls, the mistake is learned. Hopefully. Fortunately I figured all this out years ago without injuring anyone…but tips like this would have been massively appreciated. Keep up the great work.
