Yeah, I like the sound of the vintage Thrush but the first set of Magnaflows were real good too. You probably get a little more back pressure which will help low end torque. Straight through is good for top end HP, but torque on a street car is more important I think. Old school in me says Thrush, functional side of me says Magnaflows.

where are the thrush weldeds in this test. those are like the same as FM40 but have a slightly better idle sound more the metallic ping. half the cost

I liked the 40s the most. I had one on my old Dakota (4.7) years ago. It sounded great, but the interior noise was kind of nuts. After it rotted out, I went with a 50…similar external sound but far less interior noise. Great job on the video!

I had a set of Thrush header glass pack mufflers on my Dodge when I purchased it.. back in 71.. I think I liked the ebay knock offs the best.. But they all sound completely different with a modified engine.. thank you for your time in making this video.. Anyone that has changed mufflers before knows this wasn't a 5 min video... Thx again...

Great video. I've got the flow masters on my 97 Chevy 4.3L short bed and for years I had to tell the inspection guys that it was a v6 because they took for granted because of the sound it was a V8 and it would fail the emissions test. Now I don't have to worry about it because of the age of the truck. They really sound great. Not too loud inside or out. Everyone needs to watch your video before they buy. Thanks.

A symphony of wind instruments 😊 One aspect I like about magnaflow glass packs is the smooth silhouette for undercarriage aerodynamics and less chance of getting snagged while off-roading. Dont prime your vehicle until you ready to paint it in the shop; otherwise, the primer will hold and absorb contaminants that will sully your paint job. Fun vid, thanks!

If you are looking for a nice quieter sound the magna flow, but I’m a big fan of the 40 series flow master & the super 10’s also. Just depends what you prefer. Thanks for spending the time too show everyone the difference in the sounds , lots of work. But worth it. Thanks again

Flowmaster's ftw man, they really come alive with a healthy cam. After 3 engines I still have the Flowmaster 40's in my '76 Blazer from when I bought in 2003. It had the stock 350 with hooker full length headers and it had that solid V8 sound but holy crap when I put a 383 with a decent cam (226/228 @ .050 with 110LSA) in it sounded like a whole 'nother animal, really brought out all the people gawking around like wtf, absolutely amazing sound. Totally had that nostalgic muscle car eargasm, it wasn't just about the chop it was about the frequency range and audible noises you could hear emanating from the exhaust, like a very clean chop and not that glasspack noise. I put a stock 5.3L with stock exhaust manifolds hooked to the old flowmasters (H piped to dual exhaust, haven't changed anythign H pipe and back), it sounds healthy but I'm really eager to drop a good cam in it like the Truck Norris or sloppy.

The black knockoff Super 10s sound good and gnarly. The 40s sound good and smooth. If it's a daily, 40s. If it's screw it, Super 10s.

Firstly thank you for doing this. I know that it took a lot of time and effort to get it done, and I am sure a little bit of money was involved as well. My personal favorite was the Thursh vintage and the Red one followed by the Flowmaster turbo. I think that they have the best over all sound that I would look for in a performance muffler.

Definitely like the sound of the 40 series vs. the others. Hooker Aerochambers and Cherrybomb Vortex mufflers are some odd balls that sound rather nice too.

This was a better comparison than big budget channels do. Thank you! For stock motors I like flowmasters because they make them sound better. At WOT open headers sound best, but magna flows are the second best option. I would recommend trying some turbo mufflers, as I got older I love them more. No more obnoxious drones, does cost some HP but you can just uncap them at the track for the best of both worlds.

Definitely one of the better sound comparison videos out there. I went with Cherry Bomb Extreme’s (similar to the super 10’s) on my S10. (I have a video up on my channel)They’re for the track, so it’s not annoyingly loud….lol. I V-band clamped them on so I can easily switch to something a little quieter for the street. I like how those 40’ sounded, I may go with those.

You probably got a swap ,but way back when my bud had an S10 ,and of course the exhaust rotted off. Grabbed an old cherry bomb laying around and some pipe and voila it was good. 2.8 sounded like some kinda cousin to a 2 stroke Detroit!

Cool video. One thing I've found over the years . Dual exhaust on a v8 you are hearing two separate four cylinder banks firing. This can be handy for diagnostic purposes, however ,still sounds like two 4 bangers. Ever since I made my first x pipe I realized the sound was different and the reason is you can hear both banks simultaneously. My monte with open pipes and an x pipe sounds ridiculous opened up and nice and strong at idle. You should do a video on, h pipe, x pipe, straight duals.

Thank you for your time in changing all the mufflers over... Good video... I'm a older person.. Did all the loud mufflers when I was 17. I really like the Dynomax mufflers.. Had them on my street car. Didn't lose any power but definitely toned the open headers noise down w/16" collector tubes.. 11.04 in the 1/4 w/a 358 cid SBC Street driven.. W/the Dynomax I went 11.12 on an average all day... So I really like the Dynomax for my everyday SUV driving... Not too quiet, not too loud... Just slightly louder over a stock muffler... 2002 Chevy Tahoe Z71 w/a 5.3. I think I'm going w/the Dynomax or a Borla. One of the 2. Not sure yet... Thanks again for your video... 👍✌

I did borla pro xs single 3" for my 09 6.2l avalanche (transplant) and here in Alberta Canada we don't need cats so naturally I deleted them.... Sounds freaking amazing! 0 drone, better flow, slightly louder at idle, super throaty cold start but the best of all is the WOT! Man that sounds good. I'm a borla guy for life after this exhaust!

@@davydeenice1174 I too wanted a "stockish" exhaust so as to not be obnoxious. The only other vehicle I had with an exhaust was an old Monte Carlo 305 with dual blue bottles on it. That was cool for about a week. I've been running this pro xs on my avalanche for over a year now and it still excites me when I fire it up. You, sir, will not be disappointed!

If you haven't made a decision yet, look into Porter mufflers. I put them on my 79 k10. Mellow idle, nice for the neighbors, plenty of bark when you want it. Made in Wisconsin.

Headers also make lot of the difference, especially with Flowmaster. It doesn't sound like you have long tubes though
