@@StoutCustom I’ve got some good ideas from the few videos you have up on the 73-87 c10 I have a big portion of parts for my ls swap still have a list of parts to order

@@StoutCustom I know what you mean, I’ve already redone my suspension once and now want to change it up again. Wheels I’ve had a few choices I like and same for interior. I’ve already bought the Holley digital dash and bezel and my wife now hounds me about how she likes the oem gauges lol. I guess I’ll see what I like and go from there

If you fabricate a metal sandwich with rock wool in between, it could be fashioned to bolt on and protect that coil from excessive heat. Plenty of bolts and threaded holes around that coil. Just a thought. Something else to stare at!

Lol. Good suggestion. Not enough room in my mind for all this, lol

@@StoutCustom i felt 1/4” thick sandwich with air gap above and below. They did this on the Isuzu trans position switch as the exhaust destroyed the grease inside. TSB with kit fix it before factory stock. I completely understand as I have to multitask and fix my wife’s honey do list, my sons gauges with messed up printer circuit board off 81 El Co and today he asked that I replace / repair both rusted pin holes rockers on his 1986 Monte outside. When do I get my time to work on my 67 C10 for me? Sorry Jim, just venting as I recover from another back surgery.

We made custom brackets for ours and shaved the firewall. Ran the hose on the other side of inner sonits clean and un seen but also can be serviced easily. Blocked the pass side janky stock air vent and the passage threw the cowel vent. The bracket has a back mount to the firewall welded and 2 steel brackets in the front that the system "snaps" into so to speak. After that it all tightens down with 10-24 bolts and leaves bout almost have inch for actuators. Stock mounts set your system 8 inches down. We did this on a 68 shortbed auto 350. Thx yall and also love your videos🤙🤙

Thanks for the info Steve. It seems there are lots of different ways to run everything. I think I’m just indecisive, lol. One minute I want to hide everything then the next I don’t care because I just want to drive it.

I went on top of old panel
@jdurhamify2 жыл бұрын
@@StoutCustom I thought about doing that to mine but I have heard folks say there were concerns of doing a lap seam due to rust issues in between; how did you mitigate that?
@StoutCustom2 жыл бұрын
@@jdurhamify with all the different panels coming together in that area I thought it was better to keep as much of what was there as possible for strength. I primed the backside of the new metal for corrosion protection, ground the factory seams that were to be covered as well as the mating surface of the new panel and applied panel bond to these areas. The panel bond should also act as seam sealer and keep out any moisture from the factory seams. I also ran a bead of panel bond around the opening for the factory a/c unit. Then I welded all the way around the perimeter of the new panel. It should be water tight between the panels especially with all that panel bond.
@deankay44342 жыл бұрын
@@jdurhamify Modern panel bond comes in several types depending on use. 3M has some excellent videos to show how & where to use. Some is strength while others are sound deadening. I think most vehicles built the last ten years would come apart without it. Truck bedsides to the roof, too many to list. If you want to avoid the cost, sand, clean and epoxy seal to panel. Don’t forget that high quality seam sealers used inside at all welds, joints and flush gaps anywhere to pieces of metal comes together, inside, outside and underneath. You will be better off in 40+ years. Epoxy says primer and sealer on the can. Think of it as a sealer that is rock hard. Many use it mixed 10% with quality urethane reducer before base coat. Hope this help as I am learning also to get current. ASE tech turned body and painter using the new products.

I would look into slosh tubs - mild tubs. I'm running them on my 87.

Someone told me about slosh tubs a while back. I looked into them but didn’t like the big round look they had, wanted something more factory looking. Well I just looked at the mild tubs you suggested and I’ll be dang. Those look so much better. Gonna have to give them some serious thought. Thanks!

@@StoutCustom yes- they look factory brother. Get the fender filler panels and battery relocation bracket too. Thank me later.

Mine is still open. I smoothed it but left the holes. I could measure to a few reference points and you would know exactly where to reference the panel.
@StoutCustom2 жыл бұрын
I’m going to make a cardboard template to match the steel one. I can see where the factory holes were on the inside and the cardboard can be trimmed to fit inside for reference. I appreciate the offer and if the plan goes south I may give you a shout, lol

So….how do you figure out where to cut the holes in the firewall for the A/C and heater hoses?
@StoutCustom2 жыл бұрын
I can see the old hole locations inside the cab so I can probably make a cardboard template to match the steel one provided. Then I can use it on the inside just like it’s meant to be used on the outside. The steel one will not fit inside unless I cut it down.
@robertlambert52992 жыл бұрын
@@StoutCustom ah good deal. Since your firewall is smooth there isn’t a need to put the cover plate over the outside of the firewall right?
