I know what your talking about I was a Tower Crane Technician for over 32 years and I was erecting a crane at UNC and the operator they hired to operate the crane almost killed us during the most dangerous part of erecting the crane and I asked him had he ever operated during this procedure and he assured me he had well he almost killed me and three iron workers so I literally jumped down into the cab of the crane and had him half way out of the window I was so pissed then I pulled him over the crane seat and shoved him down the ladder and told him don’t come back up until I leave this job site. The superintendent of the job site called on the radio just after the operator got in the office and asked if I attacked him I told him yes and explained what happened and I told him to not let him come back up on the crane until I’m gone and he said no problem. When I finished and certified the crane I told him to get another operator and not let him operate the crane, well two weeks later the operator ran the crane hook into the high power tension lines beside the job site and shut down over half of the Universities power. The University president got involved over this incident and I had to write a report over the incident during the erection where he almost killed us. The superintendent told me later the power company charged them just short of 1 million for to repair the high tension power lines and transformers not to mention the electrical parts it burnt up in the crane. So follow your gut always. By the way I should not have hung the operator half way out of the front window I just lost my cool.
