C3 Corvette Dapper Lighting 5.75s Ep 12

Originally an L46 4-speed car, it is now running a 500hp LS3 Cruise and Connect package with a 4L70E auto trans and Vintage Air front runner system. It has a full VB&P suspension package including offset trailing arms, GM rack and pinion steering and a late model Dana 44 rear with 3:31 gears. The exhaust is stock LS manifolds with Magna Flow cats feeding 3” pipe into factory 69 mufflers. Interior is filled with Dakota Digital VHX gauges, Dakota Digital cruise control, Vintage Air AC, Kenwood stereo, C5 seats, late C3 tilt-tele column and wheel, a CIPA auto dimming rear view mirror with compass, power windows, power steering and remote door openers. The exterior has late C3 smoked glass tops, late model emblems, aluminum filler cap and LED lights from Dapper Lighting. I’ve converted the headlamps to electric as well as the cowl wiper door. The wheels are custom cut Intro Haulers in 17x8 with 245/45 Goodyear Eagle F1s and the rears are 18x9 with 265/40 F1s. Wiring is the Hwy22 kit from American Auto.

Funny you should say "200 degrees outside." Two days ago I used my laser temp reader to check temps around my house here in the Phoenix area. The concrete I was standing on was 150F, the wood floor of my porch was 167F and the pieces of black auto carpet I attached to the steps to help my elderly dog in/out of the house were 200F! I was also surprised to find the lock on my back door was 147F and later that my Stingray exhaust manifold was 512F. Sometimes I wish I had thermal vision. Great info by the way. I've been thinking about converting mine to electric, this really helps with that decision. Cheers!

I know this is an older post, for 650.00 go get a set of Holley Retrolights. No modifications at all, plug and play with options on how you want high and low beam working separate like stock or together.

If I knew I had to go through all this work, I probably would still have ordered it. I was just pissed that they made it seem like it was plug and play. That being said, there are other alternatives, they just include having to replace headlamps which I was trying to avoid because of the chance of chipping the paint on the covers and front end.

I used c2 buckets on mine the holes are bigger I ground out one and decided on the c2 units.

I didn’t have any problem with the steel bucket the bulb sits in, it’s the pot metal headlight housing itself. It all fits fine, it just won’t rotate enough to adjust. Anna on Restoration Obsession 3D printed headlight adapters to use standard LED multi bulb headlamps. Turned out pretty cool.

Did you go through relays? Also can you show them on a drive?

I used the factory 90’s relay and wired it into the circuit. I have since sold the car, so I can’t show you any video of it. But you could use standard relays. In hindsight, it would have been easier to do that.

Does your Dapper Lighting link go directly to the kit you purchased? Been wanting better lights on our ‘79 for a long time, but so many kits seemed to need some kind of mod. Did you get the adjustability when you opened up the hole in the housing a little more?

Stephen Chapis Just go to Dappers web site and use the drop down menu for make, model, etc. it will take you to the 575 lights and then there are more drop down menus for light options. I did get a lot of adjustability, but ended up doing it twice. I’ll put up a little side note on the next Corvette video, but because they are projector lamps, it cuts off the beam at the top. So, you have a half circle of light and I didn’t get the range I was hoping on the low beams. The high beams, however, are 360 degree of beam and make up for it. Actually I’ll do a quick night time video and show you what I mean. Give me a week or so.

@@C3Mods - Thanks John. Take your time. I looked at the site last night and decided to go with the non-halo LEDs with OE glass as I strive for a sleeper restomod. Now if Dapper would develop taillights that have integrated reverse lights. Like you I so want four illuminated taillights but don’t want to alter the body since she was just painted last year. BTW- were you in the Air Force? One of the shots of the car back when I noticed one of those brown signs you always see on Air Force bases.

@@C3Mods - Lights have been ordered- 30W LEDs, black housings, no halos, and OE glass. Any advice? Will have them installed next months along with new Corvette Rubber weatherstripping. The crap I got from Eckler’s is coming out.

Yeah, I wasn’t happy with the product, especially the price, but made it work. Definitely would use something else next time.
