I drove a 79 corvette 300 miles like this! Clipped a flashlight to my shirt pocket and occasionally checked temps, oil pressure, and speed. Sketchy drive but I made it all right.

Hello from 2022, can't thank you enough for the video.

If you want to verify cluster light/radio ground, just feed 12v into the left side of the fuse. If panel lights come on, ground is good. Power probes are worth their weight in gold.

Some vehicles, I think my 1971 Pontiac, wire the instrument panel lights to the same fuse as the taillights and/or brake lights.
@Struggleville23 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the tail lights are a different fuse on this one. So if you blow the fuse to your tail lights you will also take out your gauge lights.

Yeah my tail lights and dash lights went out at the same time

Which fuse is it on the fuse box?
@dennisdillman4865 Жыл бұрын
I have no power to bottom 10a fuse and have replaced 2 headlight switches already.Also a short on fuse for taillights.All other hazards,turn signals and brake lights work.Does the 10a fuse feed from taillight fuse ahead of the headlight switch maybe ????

What ended up fixing this? Having this problem right now

What type of amperage do the fuse take and volts? In the manuel it states 5 amp and consider a agc fuse not sure what the volt would be for it.

I have a 1966 caprice my dash lights do turn on but they don’t light up bright. Bad ground?? I installed a new switch by the way

Have you seen the fuses that have a red light in them that light up if the fuse blows? Pretty handy. Also there are fuses that have a switch on them like in your breaker box at home. Those are handy too. I have yet to see those two fuse combos combined.
@Struggleville23 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen those but it would be pretty handy. Do they have those fancy ones as replacements for the old glass style fuses?
@paedahe49753 жыл бұрын
@@Struggleville2 I have only seen them for plug fuses and generally the standard size. Not the micro that GM uses or for the glass tubes. Maybe some day...

My marker lights are working but the instrument lights are not. It's a new headlight switch so I'm thinking what's left is bad fuse/contact or bad grounds. I'm not sure if you pull headlights all the way on if they're supposed to light immediately or the switches on the headlight mechanism have to release when the lights come off the retracted position, then light?
@Struggleville22 жыл бұрын
Not sure I have ever paid close enough attention to it but I would imagine the headlights come on as soon as the switch is fully extended. The instrument lights are all powered by grey wires, the power comes directly from the fuse box. The same grey also powers your cigarette lighter light and heater controls light. If they are all out I would check for power on both sides of the fuse. Try to probe the actual contacts and not just the fuse. Mine has a bad habit of getting rusty so the fuse may look good and I may have power at the fuse but then touching the contact I lose power. If that checks out then its a bad ground somewhere
@daveblantz23972 жыл бұрын
Two things I need to know when trying to solve the problem- do I have power, and do I have a ground. But first thing is the instrument panel fuse and I'll check it on the posts both sides for power. Thanks.

Time for some led upgrades.
@Struggleville23 жыл бұрын
That would be nice. The door lights and storage lights are LED. If I ever had to completely tear out the dash I probably would go led

@@Struggleville2 it's totally worth it. Do it.

If it is not a fuse then it is the switch or could be the bulbs, probably the fuse.
