This video was super useful since I hadn’t found a good how-to on replacing the speedometer cable on youtube up until now and i have to do the same on my c3

Thanks for the video on doing this. I believe my slightly bouncy speedo needle simply needs lube, yet this may help in disconnecting it and getting the inner cable out. It's great to see young folks loving these C-3s. I have the same 1979 C3 Corvette L82 4 speed, only with 15k miles. When you're working on your car, if you ever need any photos of what the original looks like, I'm "G-Sting" on the corvette forum. All the best...

Awesome thanks for the comment! The cable can easily be removed and lubed, I have a video where I did that on my Chevy c10 to repair a noisy speedometer :) If lube doesn’t help then you probably have a bent speedo cable, but you’ll see that once you remove yours and inspect it :)

What did you use to lube the cable? How easy is it to pull the fire wall grommet? Did you remove it prior to pulling the cable through the firewall? Doing a new cable in my 79.

To lube the cable, you must pull the cable out of the sleeve and I use wheel bearing grease to lube the cable before putting it back in. Not too much, just a light thin skim coat. I don’t remember the firewall grommet being that much of a struggle, should be as simple as putting the new cable through and keeping the grommet attached to the firewall
