The 1090 are longer can give a little more speed but less accelerazion. Best for freediving, could be a little long for spearfishing among rocks

It is good in General but surely for deep dives it is excellent

The diver had the snorkel in his mouth while underwater, not a good idea.

That is not true. There are two approaches to diving with or without snorkel in the month. For spearfishing most of the strongest athletes have suggested to keep it in the mouth. In freediving Apnea Academy suggests to take it off. This is because the two sports are different.
