I wish they still had the cast enter through the auditorium with the cat-eye glasses. I first saw Cats when I was 14 & that moment is still etched in my memory. That was the moment I fell in love with the show

I am so glad they kept most of Gillian Lynne's choreography, that is what made the show so magical.

They actually didn't, most of Gillian's choreography has been replaced. This and Skimbalshanks are two songs that mostly feature Gillian's work. Macavity Is slightly changed and the only section of the ball that remains of Gillian's work are the first 2 minuets. 80% of her work is gone.

I honestly think problem isn't the cherography, but the dancers. Take 8:50 for example. Everybody here is so stiff and they don't seem to be into the song, or perhaps they're simply _too_ focused on getting every move right that they come off a bit stiff. If you watch the 2016 revival slime tutorial, the dancers are very clearly putting their all into the song and seem to be having a great time on stage.

I heard the tour cast were really tired and overworked so they were in perpetual exhaustion. I've seen some tours slime where they are quite energetic tho.

I saw a local production of this at one point that used more of a Zootopia approach to costuming/acting, and it was SO much less terrifying and made the whole thing so much better!

It's unbelievable how much the wonderful original choreography by Gillian Lynne has been destroyed with the US revival version. This is some sort of artistic vandalism and it hurts so much to see it.

The whole Broadway revival was like that though, which this tour is based on. the moment you think its starting or getting into something Gillie choreographed it jumps into Andy's choreo. I LOATHE it! It doesn't make any sense and tells no story and just seems like random dance steps and acro. I hope to God we never get this version here in the UK! Imagine if a British choreographer came along and did what Andy did to CATS say to CHICAGO or WEST SIDE STORY? No! it'd never happen because their work is protected by copyright within those shows and any changes must be agreed upon by their estates as well as the licencee. Shame ALW couldn't do the same with Gillian Lynns work on CATS. And i do hold him responcilbe for this shit show! I'm truly dreading the film release at Christmas time.

@@ladyjennyanytime5195 i know, i saw a video of the Broadway version and it was shocking to see the only number that was still in it's original staging was Skimbleshanks The Railway Cat. I know that Gillie was heartbroken and nearly cried on the first day of rehearsals for the revival (the only day she actually went there)... and I can totally understand why. He butchered her life's work in such a disrespectful behaviour. It's bad enough to see the UK/international tour now does the very same version of The Awful Battle and I really really hope they will never ever go further than that.

I hate the new pekes and pollicles, especially when it still uses th ending of Growltiger as the intro and end of P & P. its very odd! I find it so,so disrespectful what Andy did. why on earth would you even do that to anothers work? I have it on good authority that most performers who worked with Gillie during the original run HATE what he's done as well and this the same as we do.

@@ladyjennyanytime5195 not only to change her choreography but to even say he improved it... oh no, Andy, you didn't, you destroyed it... yes, when the international tour reintroduced the Rockstar Tugger, they took the chance to change some more stuff. They added some chorus singing about Macavity before the Jellicle Ball (lyrics that were definitely NOT written by T.S. Eliot) and cut Growltiger to replace it with the Pekes and the Pollicles. Gus is playing Rumpus Cat while wearing the ugliest costume ever worn on a theatrical stage. At least the UK/World Tour has these changes. The Vienna production that's starting later this year will have Growltiger back and The Awful Battle back in the first act.

@@chrissi2810 Eurgh! That costume was HORRENDOUS looked like a bad halloween costume made out of bin liners! Aweful and ugly as sin!! Yeah I think there was a pre-reprise of Macavity in the Broadway show as well as the lyric changes in Gumbie cat. I like the new orchestrations for Gumbie & Tugger but Andy really didnt maximise the music AT ALL. I hope somebody does at somepoint. I mean what the hell was all that with the giant balls and the clock and NO BEETLES TATTOO!! But a tap dancing chorus with no tap shoes on!! ridiculous! Liked the new play out for Gumbie too. How come GT and P & P are back in Vienna do you know? is it the original staging/choreo as well?

I'm guessing the Orchestra is the standard US Tour 5 piece band? if so it sounds a lot fuller than it did on the 2001-2012 tour.

There is no way this is the same small crap band. It sound like a good 20-30 piece. Maybe even more. The phantom North America tour set the bar so high with its 50 plus piece orchestra that Cats had to put the effort in to keep up.

The dancing is so toned down since the revival. It’s like they couldn’t find advanced professional dancers and then decided to dumb down the choreography so the not so advanced could do it. It just looks so easy for professionals. I did like Tion Gaston as mr. Mistofelees though.
