whoa! Looks to kick the snot out of GEOS, which is what I was looking at before deciding to sell and make the leap to 16-bit and the Amiga 500. Very cool looking OS, and especially that Commodore logo! I used a copper list in my startup.sequence for my heavily customized Workbench (it also played a digital sample of "A Pirate's Life For Me! upon bootup.) But I never imagined the C64 with such a cool GUI. Great job!

Wow, that's just stunning, really. Reminds me a lot of the feel of my old Amiga1000.

This looks great! It seems more mature than the "Teos" project, but 64jcl's series is a gem to watch.

@adymode first time you heard of Terry Davis and TempleOS? It's programmed as a 64 bit C64.

@@mrkitty777 Yes, I've probably scrolled past it but not looked into it before. A very unusual story and creation, brilliant but tragic. 'TeOS' is a much smaller flight of programming fancy, a very pleasant little series made by channel 64jcl
@mrkitty777 Жыл бұрын
@adymode Watched TeOS for C64, it only proves that technology could have been much more advanced decades ago. Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson during the 1998 Microsoft Lawsuit already judged how tech industry was set back by a single business man. The technology you see today existed 20 years ago already but it was kept back. Due to business history.

The best was 'GEOS', (Graphical Environment Operating System) for the C64 . Like a pre-cursor to 'Windows' !!

@@idreamtin8bits Yes, I can see the greatly improved Resolution, (and more memory to work with!). It's so much like Windows, I wonder if M.S. stole some of the ideas!! 😎

@@RazzFazz-Race try it again 😉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2rLgmObetmjm6s It is actually very useful on a C128 in 80 column mode together with a REU or CMD harddisk or a 1581 drive.

Will it support Tapecart SD ?? Will be nice to have in system use drive with 10kb/s transfer for eg. .art files preview
@idreamtin8bits2 жыл бұрын
No clue, as I do not know tapecart. At least it is not formally supported afaik. But would be surprised if it does as C64OS operates via SD2IEC DOS commands, would be surprised if tapecart would support that. More hope is in supporting solutions that emulate harddisk access. IDE64 apparently already works and is very fast.

Sad, that TEOS isn't alive currently. It is using the textmode as well but its design is so much better and much more clever than this. And it provides real multitasking.

Is it just a GUI or a real OS?
@idreamtin8bits Жыл бұрын
Depends on definitions of course. It is not replacing the standard C64 kernal, so in that sense it is an UI (not a GUI as it is using text mode), but it also adds disk and memory management layers that could be seen as more an OS than an UI. I would call it an OS, but not an OS that is replacing the low level C64 OS.
