If you like to be cheated, then yes. But please take a note that this demo is just a bunch of precalulated PC animations. It would blow my head if it was realtime but it’s not. (Even, wireframe and gouraud / env. mapping too, so where is the achievement?) Sadly on PC you can prcalculate whatever you want really… But implementing such effects to be calculated in realtime is really, really hard, and some things are simply impossible or to slow to do…

@@mongrelloyawne3201 My intention here was pointing out how e2ira is done and not to advertise my work (also using C64Debugger anyone can see and proof what is happening at CPU level in their demo). But because you asked please check this demo (which actually took 1st place on MD22 competition, and e2ira took 2nd place): kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4O5fYOdm9CLmJY our demo consists of 50000 lines of hand written assembly code, no plain converted PC animations were used and almost all effects are realtime, and again you can see using C64Debugger how much code is running in our demo, everything is optimised down to single CPU instructions, single byte and single bits. This is how it suppose to be, and believe me that designing/creating realtime effects on C64 is 10x more difficult and time consuming than doing the same on PC and then just convert the frames to C64 and play them there. It’s simply not fair that they didn’t mentioned anywhere in the demo the technique they used as audience might not be aware of the difference.

Holy! One of the best demos i've seen for avile. Transitions and sync is really good, and the coding, gfx and music is top notch. Absolutely love it! Only minor complaint (and i do mean that!) is the slightly low FPS on a few effects, even with me drinking a bottle of whine and youtube smoothing it over, i can still spot it. :) Thx for this awesome demo, it's going straight into my "best of" library!
@wacekofarise2 жыл бұрын
Hey Anders, for my curiosity ;) which effects do you consider low on FPS? As most of them are refreshed at every 3rd frame the most, this is kind of interesting question for me :)
@mojzesh27862 жыл бұрын
Every 3rd frame, means that’s 16.6 FPS. Which is obviously lower than minimum 24 FPS for human eye to perceive it as a smooth animation. That’s why it looks laggy. I bet if the author had written their own compressor instead of relying on someone else’s compressor + their workarounds, anim would be smoother. But unfortunatelly wacek is a poor coder, and he is unable to do it (in 2022 he still only knows PC Basic xD)

Check it out using C64 debugger and you will see it. Authors didn’t even write the lossy compression tool for all of the frames, but they used someone else’s compressor (CSAM) and “forgot” to credit it (and, after being pushed on csdb, wacek now recalled that he used it, magic…) .
