The author of this, Jack Verson, is also behind the JV Software games on Atari(Action Quest, Ghost Encounters, Journey to the Planets) and the puzzle style is similar, just without any art direction to speak of. There's an interview with him here on YT. He never got paid for Time Tunnel.

My brother and I solved this one when we were 12. It provided some challenge, but it was never frustrating. We still remember it fondly today.

I had this on the US Gold collection. Never completed it took me about a year to figure out how to get the time machine working. Then one day a mate was looking thru my games and found out it told you how to get going on the instruction sheet. Never saw it myself cos all instructions for the other games were on same sheet.I sold my 64 to a speed freak back in about 99 big mistake. Felt sorry for her 8 kids they had nowt to play on. They ended up with my SNES too!. Probably sold it for more speed! To be fair I sold them it to buy weed. A 64 tape deal disc drive and loads of games.

It is basically logical deduction; figuring out which item belongs in the appropriate time period, accidentally discoveries...but also a lot of: WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO HERE!! moments as well.

But ill-defined items that have no names... how the hell did anybody figure it out. Perhaps through trial and error, which would take ages. Makes new games that spoon-feed you look pathetic in the mind department. We are are being engineered towards zombies.

Some things were trial-and-error; for me the biggest hurdle was Greece. Trying to figure out how to get past Medusa, it finally dawned on me that the golden shield was in fact that and I used that to reflect Medusa's fireball back. Then it was dumb luck that I was holding the magical sword when I passed by the protruding blocks that revealed the candelabra..."Ok, what do I do with this now...AHH!"

Fuck. 25 years until I realized what the hell I had to do. Btw, how did you enter that "inventory dimension"? I remember touching and moving my joystick until randomly appeared there, but never knew the combinatión. I was lik 7-8 years old. Anyway, this game from 1985 seems more complex than most graphic adventures of the following 90's decade.

Can anyone tell me the STORY OF THIS GAME???!! Who is the gnome??! Why does he have a time machine at his disposal?! Why he appears to be the last living being on the planet, in all the ages (apart some animal)??! And WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENS IN THE ENDING?????!

The aim of the game is to teleport between different ages to solve puzzles, find "The Seven Scriptures" and become King of the Gnomes-Wikipedia...It's funny,we didn't have Wikipedia back in the 1986 and I asked my self the same back then when I was 13 years old

The adventure starts deep within the magical forests of Central Scandinavia and near the mansion of an aged, but powerful, gnome King. As is the tradition in gnome society, whenever a king reaches his 350th birthday, procedures commence to choose a successor. Your recent accomplishments for a youth of 114 years makes you a prime contender for the throne, but the feats required to achieve your goal are not easy. Seven pages from an ancient gnome scripture have been scattered across the years of time by an evil Cyclops. These pages describe the magical procedure required to free many of your kind who have been trapped by spirits within the trees of the gnome forest. To earn your right to the throne, you must undertake perilous voyages back and forth in time to locate, acquire and return these pages to the forest. Your final goal of deciphering the scriptures message will allow you to perform the special magic required to free your fellow gnomes and become Gnome King.
