I think that multiplexed part near Diamond Bar is the second busiest in both Los Angeles metro area and the U.S as a whole (after I-405 near Seal Beach). Very few freeway sections carry over 350,000 vehicles per day. This is one of them.

Yup, being that I lived near Diamond Bar, that was the way I would get home from the Hooters Restaurant in Anaheim which was basically on Katella off the 57 Freeway.

I loved watching this video. I take this route all the time going to and from OC. I live right next to Diamond Bar. I exit Grand Ave when there's too much traffic and take the streets the rest of the way home. I was just going to record this route myself but it's already on here so there's no point! LOL. I will be filming the other direction though.

@Freewayjim: Me too; the section between I-5 and CA 91 is relatively plain vanilla (considering it looks similar to other L.A. area freeways)...the HOV flyover at CA 91 is really cool, but it's the section thru the Brea Canyon that I always enjoy the most.

@FreewayBrent First I wanted to say, nice video's I'm a road enthusiast myself, and these videos are really neat. You must spend a lot of mone on gasoline. I was wondering, have you ever considered doing one of the 14 Antelope Valley Freeway.

That makes me homesick. I grew up in the East San Gabriel Valley, and my grandparents lived in Diamond Bar. I remember many drives down that freeway. That said, have you ever driven down Brea Canyon Road through the the Canyon? It's full of interesting sights. My grandfather and father usually took Brea Canyon Rd. rather than the 57. That said, they moved into the area BEFORE the 57 was built.

Check out the snow capped mountains on the horizon. Pretty cool how you can be in city known for its beaches, sunny climate and then have these snow capped peaks.

@jfs1988: It's still quite the possibility, although it would have to probably be managed by a private company, with the typical oversight by CalTrans to have it conform to state standards. But you're probably right, I doubt it'll get built under the current economic climate.

There were plans of extending the 57 from the Orange interchange down to the beach following the Santa Ana River and as a toll road but that would never happen. OCTA and the state don't have any money. I remember when they were fixing the 5 in the 1990s back then the economy wasn't so bad.
