I had to have a car towed 3 years ago, the driver who showed up was so high I wouldn't let him tow my car. I've had 3 incidents in the last year with road hazards giving me flat tires on 3 different vehicles. In every case my jack wouldn't life the car, the lug wrench wouldn't loosen the nuts, in one case the jack retainer was installed so tightly from the factory I couldn't get the jack out. In each case I called AAA, and in every case I waited hours and nobody ever showed up. I had to call a local wrecker to bring a jack, impact wrench, etc just to help me change the tire. I called AAA to cancel, it was totally painless like they were either having a lot of cancellations or they wanted to get rid of me because I was actually trying to use what I was paying $100 a year for. Our county is one of the worst when it comes to rebuilding- less than 30 homes have been approved or are in the final approval stages nearly 3 years after the fire. About 100 homeowners are in the preliminary permit stage. Many more are still battling the county to get permits to rebuild their homes. About 1/3 of all these fire victims have simply given up- took what their insurance gave them and started over somewhere new. Many of us who escaped the fire are on pins and needles waiting for our insurance companies to drop us. There are options but they are very expensive. Some policies (via the state of California) have quadrupled or more in price. One homeowner in our community went from paying $1700 a year for homeowners insurance to over 7k per year because his policy he had for over 20 years and only one minor claim, was canceled.

The law to require home owner insurance should be modified. This way the insurance companies do not have the upper hand. Unrelated but kind of the same. We are paying CRV, but there are so few to none or the drive is too far to make it worth the ripe to get our CRV back. This is essentially forcing us to give away a percentage of our income.
@alexsystems2001 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think there is a “law” to require homeowners insurance, I could be wrong though. Usually it’s mortgage companies that you make your house payment to that require insurance. In the event a house gets damaged the homeowners insurance will then rebuild the home or payoff the home so the lender gets it money. If you own your home outright you don’t have to have insurance but you would be out all that money if something happened. I do agree with you on the CRV thing!
@sgraham4533 Жыл бұрын
What is CRV?
@alexsystems2001 Жыл бұрын
@@sgraham4533 CRV is “California Redemption Value” I think. It is the deposit you pay when you buy recyclable things like soda or water in cans or bottles and when you recycle it you are supposed to get it back. The problem with it is a lot of places that used to take the cans and bottles back closed down and technically the retailer that takes the deposit from you is supposed to give you the deposit back when you bring the cans and bottles back but they don’t do that either so some people have to drive more than it’s worth to redeem your deposit. I had 5 large trash bags of crushed water bottles and got about $12. In total round trip it was about a 45 minute drive and with gas being $5.00/gal here in California, recycling was hardly worth it. So most people don’t recycle and let the state or whomever keep the deposits, so if most cans and bottles go unrecycled and the state is mandating people pay it but not mandating anyone gives you your money back, they need to stop charging it. Just like our stupid plastic bag ban. It’s 10 cents per bag required by government BUT it goes into the retailers pocket, it doesn’t even go to the state for anything, it just makes the retailers richer.
@SFPhilo Жыл бұрын
@@sgraham4533 Cali Redemption Value. It's the 5 or ten cents tacked on to each beverage container you buy. As a pool owner myself, draining a swimming pool is absolutely a reason for losing insurance on at least that part of your home. Pools are constructed to expect the pressure from thousands of gallons of water on them, if you drain a pool for an extended amount of time, the ground beneath it can and will shift and result in extensive damage to your pool that could cost tens of thousands of dollars to repair and is unfair to expect an insurance company to cover. if you did it to yourself. I’m no fan of insurance companies but this is clearly the fault of the homeowners themselves for not understanding what they’re doing to their own pool. They are intentionally doing something that will destroy part of their home that is covered under insurance, and that is grounds for not renewing their policy. You’re never supposed to do this, these are people who never learned how to take care of delicate expensive property who then raise a karen type stink when nobody wants to deal with their self-induced problem. As a property manager in both the commercial and residential arenas, I fully understand what the insurance carriers are concerned about. A poorly maintained property appearance on the outside may suggest to an insurance provider that the inside is also poorly maintained. An empty swimming pool without safety fencing around it may worry the insurance carrier as well. That man's house in Oakley, CA has a car parked adjacent to the side of his house in an area that was never designed for vehicle storage. I can understand why that insurance carrier dropped him. No brainer. Insurance companies have to manage their risks very carefully, especially in light of the many huge catastrophies that the US has seen in recent years. Property owners need to stay on top of maintenance & safety issues (ie: the horrible Oakland Hills fire that burned over 5000 homes 20+ yrs ago could have been avoided if property owners cleared/cut back vegitation too close to their homes "annually". All my neighbors in Daly City, CA were doing that annually in the 1970's. It took a horrific wildfire for the Oakland & Berkeley, CA firefighters to learn that life & property saving lesson 😢. That is truly a shame. San Mateo County fire officials 😊 were on top of their game in the 1970-90's while the Alameda County fire officials were twiddling their thumbs 😢, and the driving distance between those 2 regions is only 1 hr or so).

You're crazy and don't understand your insurance policy. Just because you have AAA doesn't mean you get to work with any tow truck company. Just like health insurance. You put yourself into that situation the moment you refused his service, he might have an attitude but finding someone who accepts your insurance past midnight or multiple open companies is always going to be difficult. What's crazy is you're in the Bay Area, you have the luxury of multiple towns and late night businesses. There are plenty of places you would have sat out all night. I find it funny that you avoided responding because I'm the only one seriously calling you out and holding your Karen attitude accountable. AAA must be bad because they hurt you. Their customers all deserve more for their dollars because you didn't get one tow you refused yourself. Fucking crazy.

@@DinDooItif the dudes paying the company every month, ain’t no reason he should have to put up with a bogus attitude like that. Why would you pay someone to treat you like shit when you can get treated like shit for free plenty of other places? Let’s be wiser with our finances.

The problem with the pool situation is if an intruder gets on the property, they could fall right into the shell. Yes it's trespassing, but it's still a lawsuit. The best option would be to fill it in or cap it.
@nigelbutler5040Ай бұрын
Wrong. If a trespasser falls off the roof he is liable, same if he drowns in the pool.

You damage the pool by removing the water. The lack of pressure/no pressure will crack it.

I think they just want more money. And they aren’t getting it from older contacts. They don’t want to pay up if something does happen. I’m sure the older ones have more coverage and were less expensive than newer contracts. They just want more money for less service.

Make it so that insurance is not required for financed properties and just watch the tide turn to where homeowners have the advantage and insurance companies would BEG for your business.

I don't think the lenders providing the financing are likely to go for that, the requirement is there to protect the collateral that backs their loan to you

you can't get a home loan without insurance (the bank ain't gonna loan w/o insurance). you usually can't buy a vehicle without insurance (most states require insurance). Insurance companies are NEVER gonna beg YOU for your business.

They do this in Texas too. An empty pool is far more dangerous than one filled with water. If you don't want your pool anymore, you fill it in. It isn't like you have anything to lose as once you leave that plaster open to the sun for 2 or 3 weeks you have ruined it anyway.

Even better just put a pool cover over it and no one will know if it has water in it or not 😅 a full pool is way more dangerous lol u can't drown if there's no water
