if SB1000 were to pass, it’s not impossible to simply push this method of communicating whatever’s seamed “vital” or secure information. Simply run a tac channel or talkgroup or keep your Primary Dispatch talkgroup clear, and any necessary info for officer safety or sensitive info can switch to an encrypted talkgroup or channel. OR you can also have units in the field manually switch encryption on, while on the dispatch channel to relay info. You can integrate this into the CAD and or a Mobile radio as seen in the video on the desk.

No need. They all run analog where I live and just switch to cellphones to keep things underwraps. Works far better than your mentally deranged desk jockey nonsense fetish setup.
@leonardbrinkman4410 Жыл бұрын
But if they really want to run something like a license plate number? They can use a mobile data computer that's inside their car. That way the information would not be passed out to the criminal, that is the only way to stop that! That is why SB1000 needs to be put in place to keep the criminal from finding out through the police scanner that he has a warrant for his arrest, only we can find out information out, but not the criminal, because all it will take is for him to get that information and we will be subject to being killed!

@@AmaryIIion slow your roll Cap'n Crunch. Law enforcement started encrypting their radio traffic from 2018 to current. Most smaller departments are NOT encrypted right now. The law enforcement community decided to interpret privacy laws as pertaining to their radio traffic. Encryption. The public's interests are collectively greater than any one person's privacy. Hearing live radio traffic is one of the best tools we have for transparency. This battle has been waging since the first department encrypted.

@@philliplewis3754 yeah I am goin a bit fast, I mean I'd say it's fine if it was proven to actually help in large high crime cities like Detroit or something then I'd say it's justified but if not then I don't see why I needs to be encrypted.

Make it illegal to stream the channels over the internet and the cops will stop wanting to encrypt. It’s teenagers and crackheads using their smartphones to know the cops are coming vs buying an $800 scanner and lugging it around.

Any action on this Bill? I hope it passes. I would like to know what's going on in my neighborhood for safety. Lots of crazy people running around these days.
@leonardbrinkman4410 Жыл бұрын
Well I can tell you this much right now that if the sb1000 does pass and it is sent the governor's desk? You can be sure to know that your privacy will be safe but you will be able to find out what's going on in your neighborhood in the first place without having your scanner encrypted. Because to me I would like to know what's going on in my neighborhood as well as you and that is one reason why I do not support police scanner encryptions ever. Because encrypting a police scanner sends the wrong message and it also puts you and me at risk! As a matter a fact I am also hearing that out in rapid City in Pennington county South Dakota is also being encrypted what's in the next few months, at what that means is the rapid City police department and the entire Pennington county sheriff's office are all going to be encrypted. As well as their fire department. So that means that the entire county will be left in the dark without you knowing what's going on in the neighborhood. And that will put you in danger I'm not knowing where the police officer is and it's that officer will be in the area, and that is why I am against police scanner encryptions all together! Because this will cause bad police officers to hide their activities but the bad guys will find other ways to listen to the police instead of an encrypted scanner.

Sensitive info almost always sent over MDT's, and not audio, the officer can then utilize and/or modify the info directly through the mobile data terminal.

Well pretty soon sure the Philadelphia Police department and the county sheriff's office will soon be totally encrypted so I don't know what you're going to do about that? But I have a strong feeling that the American civil liberties Union will come in and put a stop to this once & for all! Because I'm like you I am against police scanner encryptions, because it sends the wrong message there are other ways to make sure that we can find out the correct information without having it compramized but they say they're doing this encryption stuff for public safety and privacy reasons! And encrypting a police scanner something that I do not support @ all.

You know that's a good idea. But it does need to be passed by the state State legislatures. And I hope that this same message will go through the people in Las Vegas San Francisco San Diego and a few other cities because we need to put it into these police scanner encryptions and put it into them now not later! Because these police scanner encryptions are putting the public at risk. And that is one reason why I am against the idea of encrypting a police scanner because it is sending the wrong message!

I think they should follow the law to letter including politicians home phone numbers Date of Births home addresses and social security numbers. The have no regard for Officer safety, why should the officers have regard for their privacy. After all we want complete transparency. I had a Mayor once that wanted all the officers issued parking tickets for parking on the dead end street behind the station. After 3000 parking tickets were issued in the city he decided to give us a bigger parking lot by closing the dead end street. Some times the children need to be taught.

Yeah, privacy issues are not the problem why they did that. That's honestly stupid, and nonsensical. The problem was people showing up to scenes and becoming a problem. Has nothing to do with privacy, but rather safety. Do I think majority of Police Radio Traffic needs to be encrypted. Nope, but that's the purpose of tac channels. Such as for S.W.A.T. or other tactical high risk team, hostage, etc. type of scenarios. That's why those exist. As for traffic stops etc. If you get pulled over. There is nothing private about that. If an incident is happening. There is nothing private about that. An accident scene is nothing private. People able to know there is an accident ahead can be a great safety increase, to already be prepared to either take a different route, or to prepare to slow down, stop, or whatever else is needed to safely pass the scene, or not get stuck for however long traffic will be stopped for. So no, the greater majority of such things, are not a privacy issue. Likelihood is, people already have a decent idea of the who, etc. Just by the were, vehicle, etc. Kind of defeats the whole it's a privacy concern. Just saying. Even for pursuits. Once it is called, they could easily switch to a encrypted tac channel for the pursuit, so the potential they are listening in on the officers while being pursued is lessened greatly. It really is that simple.
