Another great video. I appreciate your informative captions. Would it be possible for you to also show what the automated voice is saying for those of us who don't speak the lingo?
@RailwayEmotions5 жыл бұрын
It's basically just a voice version of the "beeps". In this video you hear "Zugbeeinflussung" for the safety system (after confirming a signal aspect), "SIFA" (vigilance system) and "Störung" which means error/fault - or is mostly just shouted without a meaning. ;-)

@@RailwayEmotions Thank you. The point I was trying to make is that in these videos you show us so much that we usually don't get to see in cab ride videos and it would be nice if you could also explain what is happening to cause those verbal warnings as they occur, at least the first time they occur in a video.

@RailwayEmotions5 жыл бұрын
Route and station knowledge is very important in general. We don't know where exactly we get through before, since the switches are set by the signalmen, we just do whatever is necessary to get through. But, though it may look like a huge mess of tracks, there are some defined routes in bigger stations like this where trains usually pass through. Doesn't mean that it must be on one of those tracks, but it usually is.

Mach weiter so, tolle Videos!

I'm confused by the shunting at the end. After uncoupling and moving forward onto the track where the empty cars were, why not reverse straight to the empties? Why reverse to where you started, then forward again, then reverse again?

@RailwayEmotions5 жыл бұрын

Cool video. Why is the change of direction done in wettingen and not in turgi or baden? both stations seem to have quite a few available tracks. is this due to capacity restrictions?

There are enough tracks around, but not enough capacity for this maneuvre. So it is usually done in Wettingen.

@RailwayEmotions5 жыл бұрын

@RailwayEmotions5 жыл бұрын
It has pantographs for both systems its the roof, like the 421. Bombardier has mounted a single pantograph for both systems on the new Twindexx Swiss Express and it is currently undergoing tests in Germany, so this new panto seems to be working as expected. Glad you liked it!

Sure there is not enough space in Turgi to do the changing of travel direction, thus sparing some 9 miles to and fro, and also creating more unnecessary traffic in that stretch? Or even simpler - since it looks like having suffice locos, why not set a 2nd loco in Turgi, and there uncouple the original. and couple the 2nd to the till then tail of the train?

1 h 26 min - Why does the engineer pull the loco so far away from the switch, up to the beginning of the bridge? Isn't it enough just passing the switch? Or even simpler, why not direct the loco to the dead-end track, thus not using a 3rd track?
@officialmcdeath4 жыл бұрын
OK so please allow me to walk you through the procedure and define what we can and cannot know. We go as far as we go towards the bridge in order to clear the ground signal seen on the right 1:26:23 and again on the left 1:27:20 - the track we're on is the old route via Baden Oberstadt to Mellingen, which is only used by a few freight services, so we're not in anyone's way - also, if the driver runs a bit far on this track, it's not an issue, whereas hitting the buffer stop on the other track would be. You can see that the other track also sees regular use (rails are shiny) - if you read the comments across numerous videos on this channel, viewers have often pointed out seemingly odd or complex routes being taken through stations and big yards - these are mainly set up to ensure that the most track and pointwork stays active - the driver has to trust the interlocking. Hope that helps \m/

What's your question?
@mrbluesky20505 жыл бұрын
sorry, used British terms ! after initial uncoupling of loaded train, your locomotive moved forward clear of points, then reversed back into the same set of tracks that it had just left, you stopped quickly, went forward again, also quickly, then, once back clear of points, reversed again back onto the next tracks across, and onto the other ( empty) waggons? I.E. you got set back onto the wrong road? signalman problem? or by design?@@RailwayEmotions
@RailwayEmotions5 жыл бұрын
British terms are fine, but I wasn't sure what your question was. This has to do with the length of the train, it was still in the profile of the other track at the back by a few meters. It's then pulled forward to clear the profile and then pushed back to fit it onto the track. You'll see that, after pushing back, the home signal is way closer to the locomotive than before. Regarding "quickly", those coupling and uncoupling sequences are cut, because there isn't anything to see for the viewer. The wagons are secured, uncoupled, the locomotive gets clearance to shunt etc.
