Hi, the stabilisation is achieved with the lens being able to float inside the camera case, this reduces camera shake by mechanical means, rather than doing it electronically. I watched a video demonstrating the Sony Handycam HDR-PJ780VE about 4 years ago, I was so impressed I decided to buy one and more recently the FDR-AX53. When I heard that the floating lens was now available in an action camera, I bought one to try to reduce the jelly effect that plagued my GoPro cameras when used in a situation where vibration was present, such as a diesel locomotive driving cab. You can judge from this video how well the Sony preformed. Because this stabilisation is built into the Sony cameras, it cannot be used with other cameras, although GoPro offer the Karma Grip Gimbal Unit which may be used with other cameras. I also use a DJI Osmo camera, whilst it is very good, it is too delicate and complicated to use unless there is plenty of time to set it up.

Amazing feat of engineering constructing the Rimutaka Tunnel. Started 1949. Finished 1953. 15ft 6in high and 15ft 4in wide.Enjoyed the journey.

Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride, the tunnel shortens the journey considerably, but I'd love to have seen the Rimutaka Incline Railway.The museum does give some idea of what it was like.

I think spinach must a part of all KiwiRail driver's diet as those driving the older diesels are expected to turn them, but they have introduced new Chinese diesels with a cab at both ends for the drivers who don't like spinach.

Since 1954 the Maoribank Train Tunnel and Rimutaka Train Tunnel was a SINGLE Track in 2 Tunnels

"Yes" I have visited the Rimutaka Incline museum, I wish I'd seen the incline in action before the tunnels replaced it.

Hi, it was very noisy in the locomotive cab. The GoPro Hero 3 Black camera sound track was unusable, where as the Sony FDR X-3000 was just about OK, so I used the Sony soundtrack on all the videos.

As the train reaches the end of the Remutaka Tunnel, the exit portal looks pure white. But then if you look above and left you can see some kind of reflected light which allows you to see slightly more clearly what is just beyond the exit of the tunnel. It's a strange effect and I'm wondering what causes it and how it works.

Hi, it does look odd, I thinl the the smaller clearer picture is a reflection in the lens, whilst the bright white is the cameras irish struggling to cooe with the changing light conditions

why does the video not look so sharp at 1080p? Or is just that it losses quality when it is uploaded to KZbin?
@Timsvideochannel13 жыл бұрын
Hi, this Sony camera was not one of their best and the quality of playback changes as the day goes on because the internet is overloaded and some form of throttling takes place i.e. you don't always get the internet speed you are paying for.

@@Timsvideochannel1 thanks for your reply! Can I ask you if you had experience with videos lagging? I just got mine and when I record it has lagging issues. Any idea what it could be?
@Timsvideochannel13 жыл бұрын
@@leonpancho Hi, video lagging is not something I've had trouble with, the only time I've seen it is when the camera is connected via WiFi to the viewing device i.e. when using a smartphone to operate a camera. I bought the little Sony hoping to overcome the jello effect that plagued early GoPro cameras, it was better than the GoPros around at the time, I also bought a DJI Osmo - a good camera, but it takes too long to get it ready for use. The latest GoPro's are very good for their size and the jello effect is a thing of the past. For some reason footage from action cameras don't play on KZbin as well that from regular camcorders, especially if the prevalent colour is green, two things can improve the situation (1.) use a program such as Brorsoft Video Converter to convert your video to the native format for your editing program, in my case I use Pinnacle Studio, I convert the footage from the camera to .AVI for editing. (2) upload videos at 4K even if they were only filmed in 1080P. The loss of quality when watching videos on KZbin can be frustrating, there are a number of reasons such as throttling at peak viewing times, but my guess is that your broadband provider wants you to buy their premium package and KZbin wants you to suscribe to their premium ad free package. I hope you find a solution to your problem.

Did you use the FDR X3000 inside the case? Sounds very muffled to me.
@Timsvideochannel17 жыл бұрын
Hi, I am just getting used to using the FDR X3000 and it was in it's protective case, mainly because it was a long fall to the floor with no added protection. Two GoPro's were also used, one without a case, but the noise level was high enough to cause so much distortion the sound track was unusable.

When was it filmed? And how do you ask for permission if you want to film at driver's cockpit?
@Timsvideochannel17 жыл бұрын
Hi, it was filmed in Feb 2017. Getting permission to film this line was hard, because although the trains are operated by Metlink, the drivers are KiwiRail. The TranzScenic trains are easier to get permission to film from, although my contact there has moved on. Look on the Metlink website and see if there is a link to the publicity department. There have been a few changes now that Metlink is a franchise, making it harder to find the right person to ask. I did not travel in the cab with the camera, members of the public travelling in the cab is not permitted.

Hi, I've tried a number of different action cameras, they make it possible to place a camera where a using a full size camera isn't possible or practical, but their size comes at a price, the picture can look over processed. The latest GoPro cameras are better and I've learned to convert the video to .avi format before importing into my editing software. This video was taken using a GoPro7 Black edition for the forward views, not perfect, but not bad for a tiny camera.

To me, on my 28" 4K monitor, your Sony FDR-X3000 action cam looks to be out of focus...I can stop the video at any point, and the focus is soft, much like an old GoPro Hero2 used to be. Signs don't look clear, trees and grass lok indistinct, and focus is just not sharp. HOWEVER, the journey from Wellington to Masterton is thumbs-up worthy. Great to see. Keep up the good work!! Cheers!

Hi Jim, thanks for your comment, I recorded the trip on three different cameras and too my surprise the Cheapest GoPro Hero camera gave the sharpest picture. I don't know if you have a looked at the other videos. I agree with your comments about the picture from the Sony. I am still on a learning curve with it and I need to experiment more with the settings.
