This is something from an article While filming the Proseys, it became clear that they were not as insane as they appeared on television. Before traveling to Maryland for the documentary, the couple told me over the phone that they would be willing to act however we'd like them to for the piece. In previous media appearances, they explained, they'd done things to seem crazier for the cameras, at the insistence of producers-like the time they appeared on a television show pretending to have raised a Cabbage Patch Kid named Kevin as though he were an actual child (something they assured me was not actually true).

I collect dolls and have some Cabbage Patch Kids. I've never had a desire to play with them, especially to make a playground or toys for them. I mostly just put them on a shelf, change their clothes sometimes, take some photos, etc. I don't consider doll collecting to be a creepy hobby, but after seeing this, I can see why some think that. Just know that most doll collectors don't think the dolls are alive and don't really play with their dolls. Most of us are kinda like action figure collectors or any other toy collector except we don't need the pristine packaging. They're not harming anyone, and there are so many hobbies people have that I find to be must more destructive than doll collecting, so I don't mind this. Do I go around talking about doll collecting? No. My other hobbies of reading, building puzzles, ornament collecting, and gardening, I'm more likely to talk about since there is a stigma with doll collecting. And it's because of things like TLC here. It's a shame. It's amazing how society frowns on doll collecting but is totally cool with "adult" hobbies like going clubbing. Ah yes. Bad dancing, loud music, bunch of alcohol, and regret the next day paired with a hangover. Yeah, and my hobby is weird. Uh huh.
