Pretty impressive and this tent has been around for a while! So far it has held up great, done well in temps around 30 degrees and flawless in pretty heavy rain after about 10 trips or so with it.

I own both the green Alaskan Guide model, as well as the tan Instinct models (from 4-8 person), and can tell you from experience that staking the tent first is a HUGE help. It stabilizes it well enough, so that the poles can go through easier, and without needing an extra person.

Which tent do you prefer? The newer green ones don’t give an option for aluminum poles anymore.

We have had ours for over 30 years. Great tent. Finally need to replace shock cords inside frame poles. We bought the vestibule also.

That is an awesome tent. You should be warm and toasty with a buddy heater, just be sure to put a small 1x12 plank of wood or something heat resistant under and in front of the buddy heater to protect the floor from melting. If you stake it out right, it will withstand a 60mph microburst while all the other neighboring tents get blown down. Depending on your camping style, some campgrounds have a defined 12 x 12 tent pad that your tent will overlap and on occasion, there could be tree limbs that come down to about 6 feet over the tent pad. You will need to be aware if you make park reservations.

Thanks for the advice, we noticed we needed to do something in front or around the heater to prevent damage. We’ve used it a couple of times so far and the tent has been fantastic so far, no bad storms but temps pretty cold and it held the heat nicely.

Question. Will this 8 person hold 4 cots for a family of 4 ?

The cots we use are oversized cots and with those I would say it wouldn't hold four of them. With regular size cots and the shape of the tent it’s hard to say. Without trying it myself I think it’s too close to advise

3 maybe, 4 might be tough. I would try in a u pattern then 1 in the center, forming sort of an M pattern or E pattern
