A video to help others to find and replace the cabin air filter on the new Lincoln Continental. As this was a challenge because it was so much different than doing it on previous models

I just struggled to get through this procedure. I have a few notes that are very important. -To get the console side panel moved out of the way, the pins on the front go forward into the dash so the panel has to be pulled away from the console in the back and then once that is done, you can pull it backwards out of the dash. To do this, first remove the cover on the back of the console around the HVAC vents to allow the trim panel to get pulled out and then back. Just pry the panel away from the console from the back to the front. Once all the side clips are pulled out, then you can just yank it backward out of the dash. Now, you can access the elusive 4th screw. -After the panel is removed, then pop off the end cap cover on the side of the dash and then the rightmost pushpin under the dash plastic trim pan to access the screw that's down on the bottom on the right. After those screws are removed, then remove the two from inside the glove box. Once all four screws are out, close the glovebox and pull it straight back and it comes right out. You will have to disconnect the glovebox light wire. -After I got mine all the way out, I modified the glovebox so I never have to do this BS again. There is a top part of the inside of the glovebox that seemingly is designed to stow your owners manual. I never even knew it was there and therefore never used it. It is just attached to the main part of the glovebox with plastic welds. I just pried under each one and popped off that whole top. Now, I can just open the glove box and access the filter cover. I have no idea why Lincoln thought the original design was good for something that should be changed every 20k miles! If they really wanted that little manual storage area, they could have attached it to the glovebox assembly with four screws accessed from inside the open glovebox instead of welding it. Then you could have removed four screws, taken that part out and accessed the filter. I was going to reattach with screws but I actually never knew it was even there after owning the car for 6 years...so I just tossed it in the bin. Hope this helps someone!

Ha, who knew someone would find a brilliant trick to make maintaining the cabin air filter reasonable. Thanks for sharing that and the step by step procedure. Enjoy your ride

I've wanted to replace mine but since you have to take the interior apart... I may choose to have the dealership do it. Looks like a PITA!

I just did this. What’s left out so that it’s easier to get the side panel off and on the counsel by removing the passenger seat. I unbolted it and rolled it towards the back seat. Got the panel back on in a minute, after struggling for about half an hour.

How do you get to that hidden 7mm screw?

This video was made because it was impossible to see the cabin air filter on the new Lincoln Continental. When it needed replacing it took some work to find the way to do it yourself and I wanted to share this procedure for anyone having the same difficulty

Can you please post what should come off or get unscrewed first. I'm about to do it on my 2018 Continental and don't want to break anything. When for the first time I was changing the engine filter on my 2015 MKS I forgot to unplug the sensor from the air box and I broke it that costed me $100 😪 I had to buy new one.

I just saw your inquiry for another post to show what needs to be removed. If you start by removing the center panel first, you will see how the rest comes apart. I will make another video next time I do my filter if still needed, thanks, and keep up the good do it yourself maintenance

Is there a screw or bolt holding the front part of the center panel on to the left of the glove box? There is resistance there and it won't just pull out like the sections that are held in by clips. Thanks for your time.

Really hoped you actually showed what order everything went out and you doing it in a video. I can't get the large side piece loose as the glove compartment seems to be blocking. And all the glove compartment's screws are out.

you'll need a tool for trim removal. Usually short (5") plastic pry tool. 1) remove the bezel around the rear of the center console. The rear controls remain behind. 2)use the pry tool to free the back end of the side panel. 3)Pop the center console lid and pry the side free from the top, working forward on the console 4) pry the bottom free 5) after the panel is free, slide the panel back and rotate the front up. Unplug panel. Remove panel

The Lincoln looks like is is a real pain to change. Not sure why they have made changing this filter so difficult. I have a Flex I thought was a pain to change the cabin filter on, I guess I was wrong.

Im shocked that there was so much involved, but pleased that the filter was really back there after doing all the leg work to get the box off.

Yes, you dint need any tools for that one. This seems like overkill for sure and wish it didn't take 20 minuets to do

Thank you for making this video. We currently run five of these and honestly they're terrible cars. Talk about a PITA to change a simple cabin filter. Shame on Ford!

Its a shame that this will have to be taken apart each time, 30k goes by fast in our world. I guess they are going to stop production in 2020? We needed a fleet type car again, like the old TC for sure, Thanks for commenting!

I absolutely hate it as well. Town Car's were a million times better. This should never have been a FWD.

@@tehpanuychikon168 the drivetrains in ours have been rock solid, mind you these are the 3.7l NA engines, so I can't comment on the other powertrains offered. But the body, interior, and tech have been nothing but headaches. Exterior door handles going out (fixed under recall finally), driver's seat bolsters breaking, APIM issues rendering the touchscreen virtually inoperative, power trunklid issues, driver's door hinge issues, aluminum corrosion & bubbling paint around body seams, etc. These are all issues that started north of 75k miles and two of our 2017's have close to 250k miles now, but they're a far cry from the durability that our old Town Cars and current MKTs have shown (the MKT has been a stellar vehicle btw, better than the Town Car imho). Parts and labor have been significantly more expensive too. With all of that said, I don't see any worthwhile sedans or crossovers being offered by any of the manufacturers that are suitable for the livery/taxi industry currently, which is unfortunate.

Wow, a dealer charged me $166 labor and 33 for the part. $199 total. I guess I may have had trouble doing it myself.
