Dude I’m up here in Maine and it’s the same thing. The elderly own the entire coastline and nobody is allowed to explore. A young person buys a plot to put a cabin and the local town board goes nuts. PS let’s hang out in our VW Busses

We are grateful that we live half the year in a small town on the Connecticut shoreline and during the colder months in San Diego. Over the years we have come to understand the “small town mentality.” When change is hard and perceptions are misguided. We applauded and cheer for both of you with every video on both your channels. Moving forward you always have to be true to your visions. As long as your efforts don’t harm others it’s full speed ahead. Hope you are feeling better! We were sick in September. No fun. Gosh you are such an inspiration. Setbacks and curveballs have been my life this past year as well. Some so heavy I thought I’d never find my path again. But we eventually hit one back, right? We purchased our home, here in the mountains of southwestern Virginia, from the husband and wife who built the home. The man they purchased the land from got 'seller's remorse' and would bring a lawn chair to the corner of the property while the house was being built, stare at them all day and threaten to sue them whenever he didn't approve of the way they were building the house. Some people in this world are just not right in the head and need to find things to complain about. It's not just your neighborhood, Kyle. There are nuts everywhere. LOL

All these things are the road to your dream (FARM). Invite the Walkers and Townspeople to a community supper at the cabin. My Friends and I do them once a year! Great food great talk .It works, have your Mom and Dad help ! they're even more local than you! Make really cool signs and post them on the walk path. If you ever watched Shawn James’s difficult decision to have to give up his cabin due to phycho neighbors harrasment- you are handling things like a confident, educated gentleman that you are. Small New England towns are difficult. They don't bend to change and bristle at the thought of a slight difference. All I can suggest is to remain yourself and be open and kind which you are. Making one friend is all it takes. Communities are tight but getting just a smidge involved really opens the door. Hang in there❤️

Kyle, I’ve followed you since around the time you left the news station. I live In your area and think your an amazing young man and have done a great job on fixing up that property along the River. I have hunted and fished all the hill town areas and unfortunately there is a segment of people who like to think that this slice of beauty is all their own. I was fishing a stream in the area in front of a property and a couple said I must remove my self from the stream and cease fly fishing. As an older man in my 60s I have been disappointed that a way of life is not what I pictured it was going to be because of others. Keep your chin up, keep being you and continue pursuing the dream of owning your own farm one day.

We bought a house in an upscale area for a good price because a family trust was wanting to get rid of a rental property. None of our neighbors are friendly to us - a single woman and daughter - after ten years, I think because our property value brings theirs down (?). We love our home, and I am very proud that I have bought it myself with money I have earned. No one can really take that away. It would be nice if our neighbors were more neighborly and didn't turn their backs when we drive in. That they would appreciate the good things we've done here, and that we are quiet and considerate. It is sad to know they would not have our backs if we needed help, but such is the nature of humanity I suppose. Love what you have and stay strong, you are an inspiration.

Keep the faith. Radiate good intentions. Act as though you are loved and respected by your neighbors, offer to help them when appropriate, ask them for help when you can, take over something from the garden, ask for advice about something, admire something about a neighbor’s place out loud, confide in the neighborhood gossip that you bought the place yourself, that you work, that you dream, that you struggle, and ask for their advice. Works danged wonders…I live in a tiny village myself, I know how challenging it is…showing your vulnerability is hard but it calls out the best sometimes in the most hardened hearts.

Good fences make good neighbors! Get you a good survey, corner posts to establish boundaries, and a solid cattle guard at the road. If the problems continue stretch come sheep wire, build a nice dry stack fence, or a nice split rail to blend in with the forest. Familiarity does not equal ownership. I have to remind folk of that in my small town almost daily.

I’ve often wondered how you’ve been able to build the cabin in Massachusetts without constant permits and inspections. Good morning! I had a ‘96 Trooper for several years. It made it 276k miles before the engine quit. I was in a bad way working all over Atlanta and felt I needed a newer vehicle so I sold it for $750. The 4 wheel drive still worked perfectly and it still looked great. I’d driven it to any upscale Atlanta function proudly. I regretted selling it. I tried to buy it back years later but I couldn’t make it happen. I have all intentions of buying another one. I love the way they look and drive. I was told they’re hard to find parts for. Idk I built houses in Atlanta for 34 years. When neighbors complained about what we were doing I’d ask them why didn’t they buy the property so they could do as they pleased? They’d say “I can’t afford to buy all the property I’d like to keep the way I like”. I’d usually let it it go at that. Or, I’d say- “so you want to control what others do on their own property, gotcha” You’re kickin butt my friend! You got this! Godspeed.

In regards to bringing stuff in by sled- if you buy something along the lines of a jet sled for ice fishing and make it so you pull it by bars instead of the rope that comes with it, you can fly and they’re plenty stable. Cheers man!

I live on farm and in small town outside bigger city and you will always have these issues with people. It's either your animals or building or whatever and it is hard when it's your neighbors and people talk and you feel uneasy at own home and conflicts or confrontation. Wishing you the best. I had neighbor keep changing our river thru our property and changed land because of them above us doing colverts and working on thier property or people on our land or building on line or not letting you access your land you can't get to except by easement so I understand and hard when these people have connections with the county you need help from. Been here decades and 1st moved in at Christmas had ornaments made and cards for every neighbor but no one responded and still feel like outsider when this has been home always maybe next town over but really all same . Keep doing what you want and makes you happy don't give in as it won't stop.

While watching the lead in on this video Kyle, I felt like I was 20-something, living my Mother Earth way of life again. We bought a rustic camp on five acres in 1975. My husband had inherited a conservative amount of funds. It was enough to hire a local contractor to build an addition. So we started fixing up the place on weekends with my dad's help. Nothing has changed. The town was population 2,000 and rural, with a beautiful lake nearby. Local folks were skirting around trying to find out just how we could afford a place. We only paid 10K for a camp that should have been torn down. The well & septic had to be approved, as well as building permits. Kyle, we were doing everything by the book and it was still a challenge, but we got through it. Now we are retired in yet another NH town, population 2,000. DejaV. Built a cottage on our family farm in 2015 and STILL had to jump through hoops! Fortunately for us, our farming neighbors, whose property was adjacent to ours stood up for us at the town board meeting. Now we live quietly in the woods and help out my brother-in-law at the main farm. My suggestion is to have a good lawyer and know the by-laws of the town you want a farm in. The taxes can vary widely in NH, depending on the school system, as well as the building codes. All the best!

I'm honestly stunned to hear that there's a significant group of people who don't like you where you live. I haven't watched too many of your videos yet, but the last one I watched was one where you befriended an old man with cancer in Ohio... it was just such a beautiful story of shared humanity across so many differences. Wow, if someone like YOU can't make friends with your neighbors then I feel real confident in saying you are not the problem, and I'm sorry that you landed in a town with some neighbors who must hate life. I've only recently begun watching your channel but I've shown a couple of your videos to my hubby who also has the same response as I do... just wonder and delight at your storytelling and your life... the other day I asked hubby if he wanted to watch a video by "the poet" and he knew right away who I was referring to 😂 ... so I just felt compelled to offer you this reflection right now from a total stranger, who sees you as an inspiring artist and beautiful soul. Seems like the harder we work at times the more ridiculous life gets. On another note would love to have Ally pick my wife's Lori brain she has a degree in holistic oils and she has on-going classes of Holistic Medicine she has been taking on line for quite some time now she has all kinds of natural remedies. Kyle, people can suck. Sometimes change can be intimidating but rather than pointing that finger at you they need to look inwards and ask why they feel intimidated. Thank you for keeping it real. Know in spite of all the haters, you have so many loyal friends online and those that love you in person. We see your heart, intentions and goals are pure. You deserve that land as much or more for all the sweat, blood & tears. There’s something I need to remind myself when I feel down about other people’s actions and that is I must be doing something right to not be liked by all. It was so refreshing to hear and see the last two videos that you have life stress, too. Everything looks so perfect through your lens. I've been tuning in since 2020 to escape all of the craziness and I love the simple life. We want a life that is less stressful on our acreage too, but work and fast pace, everything takes away from the simple enjoyment at times. I am saddened that people can not see how pure your soul and intentions are...give them time they will truly see you one day and regret their cruelty.

There really are very few of us that truly don’t care what others think - and what comes with that is a constant risk of pathology. I’m 60, and I’ve worked over the years to actually care. Here is what I’ve chosen as my path: to bless those who curse me. I often fail at this, but it’s my intention. I’d recommend you think about a saying, a phrase, a mantra that becomes part of your muscle memory - when you are slighted or maligned- bless those who do it, even in just your own head. Over time it will change things for you and them. It’s the counterintuitive solution that’s been taught for a couple of thousand years that most people will never accept as viable- but it is. It elevates you. Best of luck to you now and with that farm in your future!

Of all the things you could be doing (gang banging, tiktoking in your undies, peddling crap to kids at the playgrounds & parks, vegging out all day (but not b'cause you're sick😮) then blaming all issues on everyone else & not taking responsibility), you are such an inspiration. Me and the 11 neighbors on our 6.5 half & full acre lots are going up against an investor who already has 250 townhouses within a 2 mile radius. He just bought a two acre lot less than 1000 ft from the corner we're on and wants to put another 16 units. He paid $700k to make them move but only wants to give us in the high $300ks...think again. We know it's the land he wants. The industrial rock crushers have already shifted one neighbor's foundation 😢. I'm one of the few that still has my 40 year old oaks and elms. We've been fighting for a year now. Of all the vacant paved lots that are just begging to be built on, he picked our location simply to justify being able to charge double what our 4br unattached homes are worth. Since the 2 acres he built on has no greenspace, I see no less than 4-6 deer about 3 times a week coming to feast on my muscadines & leaves. I just rerouted the vines so they split on the fences & the younger ones can reach them better. We are all under 4% apr fixed. Where are we going to go? I need at least what he bought the other one for so we can head to the N. GA towns & buy outright, even a fixer upper. We're heading up this coming wknd to start scouting out properties to possibly renovate. We're both within a decade of retiring (me from pub school, hubs in IT) but we've already started our side hustles (I'm a court reporter, Nationally certified & can work via zoom anywhere, he's got some positive ventures working to provide portable sustainable community services, ie providing classes at comm'ty centers in socio-economically challenged areas, etc) It's definitely easier said than done to stay positive after all the work that someone could just fight and say no but have no viable reason other than they don't want change. So the cabin was just supposed to fall apart and then what? They'd say they wish someone would do something with it 🙄 Tell you what, those people can have the investor here slap up 200+ townhouses, roundabouts, blinking stop signs, 24/7 gas station (that had a shooting earlier this year) and all night noise because the "guests" park on our street because there's no room on the 'parking pad' while the non stop party is happening. Let 'em have that!

just ignore those people, you dont get up everyday to impress them. Be positive and youll get through it. Been watching your video, you motivate me to get a cabin one day. thats my dream and start living a more minimalist lifestyle.
