Hey Rob. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Great to see that you picked up a grouse and a bunny. When I set brass wire I put my snare on a stick that has some give to it like a live tree branch. A solid stick has no give which makes it easier to break the wire. As for duck hunting, sitting still in the blind and keeping the dogs quiet will help along with a duck call. As for Mergansers. I don't waste any shot on them. They are not very tasty.

Great to watch your hunting. Loved Millie's face as you ate the moose burger. Lol They need to change the law about those brass rabbit snares. Keep those videos coming

I'm glad You're springing Your snares, I used to see some that weren't which was irritating at the least. One time on Southern Brook Line I saw the remains of a Lynx in a snare that wasn't sprung. The same guy snared a Moose and it bloated on him so he dragged it into the river. Your program is great, keep going.

We use golden eye decoys for mergansers. Had the same problem couldn’t get the birds to finish most of the time but the golden eye decoys work great.

Agree with you that brass is garbage. You should be allowed to use stainless if you are in a no marten zone. I only used stainless when I was at it and didn't have any bust off. Enjoy your vids.

For decoying ducks movement is key, the less you move the better. And those big plastic merganser decoys I don’t find work at all just as well have javex jugs painted neon orange put out especially if there’s either bit of pressure on the birds. Otherwise great stuff buddy! Keep enjoying the outdoors!

Might as well pit tge comment on the right video I'm definitely no expert at duck hunting , or any hunting for that part lol. I'm sure there's some that can weigh in lol. As for the brass wire I feel your pain there and I suspect you've see a lot of debate on that , but I think it's probably all useless because it's all garbage lol. I always used picture cord because that's what my grandfather used but that's when it was probably 10 strand not the maximum 6 now , that won't even hold up a small picture lol. At least you never got skunked lol. Happy New Year to you the missus and the pups of course looking forward to your videos in 2025

Maybe a coyote robber those 2 snares? I’m no expert on ducks, but having a fire, dogs roaming etc… isn’t good. Don’t forget they’re coming in from a high vantage point, so they’ll see all that. Also to get them in the spot you want with the decoys, lay them roughly in a large C shape, with the open end facing down wind. That way they’ll be likely to land in the middle. Don’t forget they’re almost always fly into the wind to land. So if your spot is too sheltered, it may not be too attractive. Oh, and don’t miss. Definitely don’t miss. Practice with some clays every fall. That’s about all I know
