I’m an OG, and loved this vlog . You have inspired me at 69 yrs of age to get my high top 136” wb Promaster . I had a couple of young carpenters customize an off grid simple van for me to travel in with my bikes, paddle board and art supplies. Like you, I have a simple set up camp stove, 12v frig, 300 w of solar, a dc to dc charger, an inverter that I have yet to use lol, a webasto gas heater I love under my swivel passenger seat. I have a Trelino compost toilet (from Germany) that looks like a a small stool in my small bench seat. Love my high double bed, I too sleep like a baby in it. I’m 70 yrs of age, still have my little rental apartment, but love losing the door and heading to the woods or afar for solitude, biking, running, swimming or curled up with a tea in my bed reading. Thank for this vlog as it is a wonderful reminder of why I have Loki! The only addition I want is a rescue dog that wants to enjoy their senior years with me ❤

Hi Linnea, your talk is so comforting, you talk about simple stuffs; wood stove, cabinets, latches, coffee mugs and how these things are supposed to make you feel good. It makes you to appreciate simplicity in life, not necessarily anything huge. Every time I am feeling down I watch one of your videos and I feel all right after that. Have you ever thought about writing a book?

You're right, that life isn't for me, but I do enjoy your videos. I'm glad you didn't paint the wood. It's so much warmer, organic, and natural without it. Truly like in a cabin in the woods. Akela seems to always steal the spotlight, even when only her paws are visible, pitter pattering in the corner of the video.

Linnea! 53yo Aussie here. In my late 20s, I spent 6 months camping around Australia, followed by a soul-searching journey through the US, including Alaska. Those adventures were truly life-changing, they helped me find my purpose and showed me the strength I never knew I had. The incredible people I met and the freedom I felt still inspire me to this day. Despite the pressure to “settle down,” (whatever that means for each person), I trusted my own timeline and waited until my mid-30s. Those solo travels taught me that life’s challenges are easier to face when you’ve learned to trust yourself and embrace the journey.

There’s a really neat Wood Stove Fan. It works by placing it on top of your wood stove and the rising heat from the stove makes the blades turn and instead of the heat just going up it pushes the heat forward. No electricity needed to run it.

Thank you for sharing a little of your lifestyle. Your time living in you van is not ending but your lifestyle is changing, owning your 40 acres and building a home opens up life to learning new skills and when it is done you'll have time to go off and travel in your awesome little van but also know when you need to you have somewhere you built to your own plans to suit your off grid life to go back to and prepare for whatever life has in store for you. Here's to a wonderful and prosperous new year ❤
@scotttovey3 күн бұрын
"owning your 40 acres and building a home opens up life to learning new skills and when it is done you'll have time to go off and travel in your awesome little van" I would agree with you if she were building at her leisure, but she said that there "are legal pressures" forcing her to build a home. First there was the rush to force her to install the septic system, now there is a rush to force her to build a house. This sounds to me like claim jumpers trying to force her out and take her land by forcing her to spend money she does not have. In order for her to build a home, she will have to take out a loan and at this point, she may not have as much money saved as she would like to have saved before engaging in a house building project. If she is forced to build before she is ready, she could very well end up in a situation where she goes bankrupt and loses all the sweat equity she has put into the land already.
@debraanneclark21883 күн бұрын
@scotttovey I know but I was just being positive about it. Doing something because the law demands it obviously means she will have added pressure and expenditure. When it is all finished she has met the legal requirements having her little van will allow her to travel again
@scotttovey3 күн бұрын
@@debraanneclark2188 "Doing something because the law demands it obviously means she will have added pressure and expenditure." When was the last time you heard of a property owner, being forced to put a building on land that was purchased within the last year? If that is legal code, then there was an legal obligation on the part of the seller, as well as the Realtor, to disclose that bit of pertinent information to her at the time of the sale. Think about how anti-poor such a code is. The only people that would be able to purchase land, would be the upper middle class and the rich.

And while certainly, I have not been to every State in the Union, I have never heard of a law that requires a land owner to build or improve the land before the land owner, decides to make those investments. Something smells fishy, and it's not dead fish. "So if your just going about cause you can't afford to do it or jealous shut up." Don't attempt to interpret what a man wrote; contrary to what he wrote. You will only hurt your brain trying to figure out exactly which one of the fantasies you thought up, he meant. And regardless of which of the fantasies you choose, you will be wrong because as far as this man is concerned, I say what I mean, and I mean what I say. Well, that is unless I'm telling a dumb joke, and it's pretty obvious that they are dumb jokes, even if they aren't necessarily funny. I found your channel just as I started to think about van/bus life and have followed ever since. You inspired me to take the plunge as I thought I’d never be able to do it. So, I started looking at vans 2.5 years ago, and procrastinated as none felt right. That’s because when I saw a Toyota coaster bus with all the windows I knew that’s what I wanted instead of a van! So, I gave my house a face lift, sold it and bought a bus! Moved in with a friend and have been working on it just over 18 months. It’s slow going as I work full time only having 2 weekends off a month. Plus I volunteer over in South Africa for 3 months a year as well. But I’m very happy with how it’s you going so far and I’ve learnt soooo much along the way! Hopefully within the next 6 months majority of it will be done. Plumbing (tanks are already in) and electrical going in over the next month. All my cabinets are done ready to drop in once the new floor goes down! Anyway I wanted to say thank you so much for the inspiration! I’d never have considered doing it myself without watching your build. I always wanted to buy land out in the middle of nowhere and build a house. I’m too old for that now, so living through your videos ❤

Amazing! I love your vibe, and i love that you emphasize that this is perfect for YOU and people need to decide what works for them (the wood stove vs diesel is a perfect example). Also the part about the floor - it's just a floor!! - is so spot on, in my house I'm always so worried about scratches or whatever but it's just a floor! The house is meant to be lived in, not look like a showroom forever. Who cares if my floors get scuffed. We need to LIVE, not always being worried about resale value (my own issue). That floor thing really resonated with me

I have been with you on your journey from the start. I thank you back as I have so much joy watching you grow and love to learn many things and yet your values are well in tact!! I feel pride as you are my daughter's age and I just enjoy you so much!! I am having my van built as I write this. I will be starting my journey in the fall. I do have many things going into my build that I am doing because I can, and because I was an OG in the 70's in a VW van and it was very basic and all I needed then. Since I am older I went back and forth and so many ppl have opinions on how others choose to live amazes me. Anyway I am told I'm too old and I'm nuts for giving up my home for vanlife. I purchased my van in 2018 it’s partially built out, this past summer I purchased a RV because I have grandkids and I need more space plus I have dogs and I needed some air conditioner for my dogs. I’m like you my dogs , my fur babies are my #1 one priority they will always travel with me so I need to make sure they are cool when need to be cool and warm when they need to be warm. Love you too. Keep up the great work. See you next week...🐾✌🏻💕 Happy Holidays 🎉

I have watched your videos for years now, and holy (whatever sacred animal you wish), you are killing it. You really made that Promaster into something special, and now have a homestead. That is BIG! I can't imagine the amount of work you have put into everything, including filming. Bravo for you and your success.

We have 18 acres of nothing but woods and a creek. If you're ever in georgia send me a post. I have a campsite that never gets used your welcome to it. I have a daughter about your age and two granddaughters my wife and I are raising and you would be such an inspiration to my girls. Although I must say your parents must worry about you all the time. So proud of you and all you have done. Good luck and God bless you and your special girl. Nothing like a true friend to enjoy.

I just finished building out my van and 100% couldn't have done it without your videos. I am honestly pretty nervous about hitting the road soon, this video gave me some much needed courage. Thanks for everything Linnea- you have no idea how much your build playlist helped me out!

Followed you from the early days....loved how the van has evolved over time! You have proven that people don't need a lot of money to live their dream. Look forward to your next chapter of simple offgrid home building.

Wisco Girl here. I've been watching for many years, but don't know if i've commented before. I hope you had a great time in Wisconsin with your family for the holidays. So, a few years ago... when you survived the Wisconsin winter with Chris, I was watching and tracking every storm that came through and experiencing them also.... but I was in my house. I'm a Hodag , I live in Rhinelander. Thank you for providing a realistic van life experience. I'm hoping for this is my retirement. Go Packers!

I started watching u when u started building your van. I remember the floor, making the bed, the electric, remember the puck lights and you were SO excited that they worked! I missed the ceiling and walls and will be watching them soon as I’m sanding & staining pallet wood this spring to finish the interior of my van. You have and still do inspire me. I look forward to your videos every Sunday. Thanks so much for sharing your life. Deb

You are my absolute FAVORITE vanlife channel! Your simplicity, yet intricate and detailed living is amazing! I have followed you for years and you inspire me, at 61 years old, to live simply. Thank you! And, I still LOVE your van. And, I LOVE your channel!!❤

I have to say to me your van looks beautiful, rustic, cozy and I love it. Even a fireplace!!! I don't even have one in my house. I love it!

Always love your videos. It’s so refreshing that you express “it’s how you like it” “how you live”. So glad you do you! Again fun to see the van tour and it’s evolved so much over the years! Thanks for being you!

Hi Linnea, I remember finding your channel and binging through your van build videos to catch up, and it feels like it was yesterday. But it's been way over 2 years, I can't believe it! Thank you for this update, your home is looking beautiful and cozy. I want to diy my own van one day (not to live in but for travel) and watching your videos definitely gave me the comforting idea that it can be so simple, the simpler the better. All the best from London!

Early follower here - I think I found your page when you were installing your first ceiling fan. You (and your lovely family) helped bring so much joy and laughter during the pandemic. You're inspiring and I appreciate the constant reminder that moments make memories, not things (though a wood stove and a freezer are cool to have). Thank you for taking us along on your journey. Thank you for the education and fun.

I am SO excited to see your ‘little house in the desert’ build! I am one of those that have followed you from very early on, (I think I had maybe 3 videos to catch up on) and I was really excited for you to take us with you on the road and now on your land too. Your passion for this lifestyle is so fun to watch. Best wishes to you and Akela for an amazing New Year!

I look forward to your weekly content! I started watching during Covid but stay for the sheer pleasure of being part of your journey! Your van is perfection!!! I also agree, as a northwoods lover, nothing but a wood stove for me either! The compressed wood is so great!!!

Just pausing to say I would buy a cookbook written by you. I know, I know, you don’t follow recipes - and that’s exactly what I want to learn. I don’t want precise step by steps. I’d like a general description of how to make something (know when to start next step), maybe some pretty photos of your one pot camp stove as the majority of the instructions (ie when it looks like this, start doing this). Because my New Year goal is to start cooking for my family. Simple, healthy meals, pretty much out of one or two pots. Your food always looks amazing and I’d give anything to shadow you for a week so I’d have one week of recipes to repeat over and over. I’d pay good money for this!!!

PS for me….”pretty” means - exactly how your stuff looks - spills, tiny space, the dogs in the background - all of it. Because I live in a house with two kids and two pets and a husband and my space is just like that too.

A lovely way to live even with a home base in Co. Thank you for the wrap. I've followed you for 2 plus years as I embark on Van Traveling. Love the latches, we used them on windows at Camp Namaste in Caroga Lake, NY.

How do you handle or prioritize safety/protection? Do you carry or just try to make wise decisions? I really enjoy your videos and want this to continue.

Linnea, I have loved everything you have done. I would have loved to live this life when I was younger. But being 70 now is not the time to start. Enjoy yourself and I’m sorry you’re being forced to build a place on your land. Stay true to yourself. But as a mother and Grandmother can I tell you that your candles made me a nervous wreck.😂😂😂I’ve been with you from the start and look forward to more.
