Learned a new way to do toe kicks I like it. BTW, I Love my Hitachi Nail Guns. 23g, and narrow crown (Sold my 16g years ago). Picked up a Ryobi 18g, and I'm still, using my 20+ year old CH Framing gun as well. The compressor died 16 years ago. I've even used it to drive magnesium nails into concrete to anchor the wall studs in two different basements. A little bit of oil keeps em going strong. Even the Ryobi needs a bit of oil to keep the seals going strong.

When i installed my kitchen, I made the spacers smaller in height then the actual toe kick. So that I cut put in the toe kick where I wanted it on the kitchen floor, level it out with shims and then trace the contour from the floor to the kick and then cut that of. Then I got the hole toe kick as a bering structure, straight to the floor. But you just have to take it in consideration when making the toe kick, to allow for 10-20mm to be cut off, depending on how level your floor is. But hey, really nice and easy way to make a toe kick. Without any visual screw holes. I like it.

Really interesting way to build toe kicks Sedge! My uncle taught me a different way which resulted in filling a lot of holes. Gonna give this a try!

Sedge, any thoughts on using prefinished ply for toekicks? I've got a ton of scrap but my immediate concern was glue-ability...?! Thanks for another awesome video.

Pre-finished has never worked for me.. glue does not work well...

@@sedgetoolI also wanted to ask a question about finished (toe kick + cab + counter) height. My base cabs are 768H and I'm planning on 3cm countertop material. Would you normally stick with a 100mm toe kick and call it a day or do you try to make up the height (with a higher toe kick or additional layer of play on top of cabs to get closer to 36" counter height?

How do you level out the toe kicks upon install? Do you use shims, or is it more of a cut down in little increments?

I shim the kick ...

Cool, how do you decide how deep to make the toe kick? 1/4 of total width of cabinet? Ig: 100 for 400 thx!

subtract 100mm from overall depth of cabinet....

How do you attach the toe kick to the cabinet box?
@sedgetool3 жыл бұрын
I don't...I set the kick ..level it ... screw it to wall ...and set cabinets on top ...
@ThekiBoran3 жыл бұрын
For island cabinets we would screw the cabinets to the toe kicks. Fastcap makes the countersink bit for their screw caps which helps keep the caps in place.

Excellent video. As a novice I thought the same. Much easier to level the kick. Can you suggest how to attach the base to the toe?
@sedgetool2 жыл бұрын
I level and attach the toe kick to the wall. I set the base cabinets on top of toe kick and attach to the wall ... most of the time I do not have to attach base cabinets to the toe kick......

In the video you say you make the tie kick 100 mm height x 100 mm deep for 400 mm deep cabinets. I’m assuming they were more like 250-300 mm deep? Are you just insetting them 100 mm?
