I made a couple of bottle top tables using some old cable drums I salvaged. This video takes you through the step by step guide of how I made them.
1. Preparing the Table (00:05)
Sand it down
Fix underlay board
Bottle top dry run
Straighten the bottle tops
2. Fixing the Bottle Tops (00:51)
Mix Adhesive Ratio 5:1
Apply Tile Adhesive
Fix Bottle Tops
*Allow to dry for at least 24hrs
3. Grouting (03:19)
Mix Grout Ratio 3:1
Apply the Grout
*Allow to dry for at least 24hrs
4. Applying the Resin (05:07)
Ensure the table is level
Mix the resin thoroughly as per the manufacturers reccomendation
Apply the Resin evenly
Use a blowtorch to eradicate any bubbles in the resin
*Allow to dry for at least 24hrs
5. Finishing Touches (10:08)
Sand the base again if required
Apply varnish (I used 3 coats of Yacht Varnish)
Wood Effect Trim: The wood effect trim is a UPVC Rosewood which I found to be easily shaped around the edging.
This was the most problematic to fix which isn't covered in this video.
After many failed attempts I settled on having to use 2 screws to secure it, and on the second table found it easier if this was fitted before applying the resin.
Here is a list of materials:
Cable Drum
Wood Fibre Underlay Boards

No Nonsense No Mould Grout Black

Tack Pins
Bottle Tops
Tile Adhesive
Sanding Disks
Yacht Varnish
UPVC Wood Effect Trim
1.5Kg Epoxy Resin
Thanks for watching, and please ask any questions you may have. I have made many mistakes, some costly so happy to help you avoid the same ones I made.

Hi, realy cool table! How long did you wait to whipe off the grout? And did you do it just with water?
@leeaustin8347
@leeaustin8347 Жыл бұрын
Use a damp sponge. I had a couple ready to go as they get dirty pretty quickly. Also have plenty of clean fresh water 💧 on hand. You can let the grout dry / set for a short period of time but there’s a compromise between too wet, and setting hard. Good luck

Hi Lee, great work on the table! Random question but I noticed you have Zipfer bottle caps on your table, How did you get hold of these? did you keep them from Austria / Germany or do you know of anywhere to get them in the UK?

Hi Alex - Thanks for your comment. I used Wood Fibre Underlay Boards. They work out at about £1 each and can be bought from most DIY places. Even good sturdy cardboard or a thin sheet of plywood will do the trick.

How thick was the resin on your table? Currently looking at doing a similar project and its working out at 8litres of resin in total for 15mm of resin.
@leeaustin8347
@leeaustin8347 3 жыл бұрын
That seems alot to me. I suppose it depends what your using it for. I only used 1.5 litres which just gave enough coverage for the bottle tops, so a few mil at least, but i think that's enough for light use (beer, snacks, and cards) - cheers and good luck with your project.

@@leeaustin8347 if it was only a few mil over the bottle tops i will make it less thick as its only for light use as well. Loved the video and step by step.

So do you have to use a torch to get the air bubbles out? I take it it's not flammable?..
@leeaustin8347
@leeaustin8347 2 жыл бұрын
You don't neccessarily need to use a blow torch to remove the resin bubbles, it all depends on how careful you mix and pour the resin.

Did you have any bolts sticking up from the top of the table that you had to saw off in order to make a level? I saw that in another video so I was curious exactly what to use to do it I guess I have no idea because none of these videos explain it period And I do have never work with many power tools

Hi Z - Thanks for taking the time to comment. There were no bolts on mine so pretty easy really. I would suggest you can use a hack saw to saw these off, or even a grinder would do it. Good Luck.
