This video has to be one of the best I've watched. What a wonderful experience riding Switzerland's elaborate rail system. The infrastructure of Suisse rail always amazes me. Thanks to all of the explorers, surveyors, siting engineers, and mapmakers who produced the documentation of your geology. It provided Route designers, construction experts, and railroads to transverse the terrain. And thanks to the Swiss people for supporting this infrastructure years ago, and the ability to maintain it for all to enjoy! "Through the mountains, not around them!"

Excellent video. But good grief--this is all narrow-gauge? Schmalspur? Still, if you're going to the expense of digging tunnels and building viaducts, why not spend a little extra now and at least make them capable of standard gauge, should the need arise? Seems silly not to.
@Calandamountain4 жыл бұрын
there are a ton of reasons not to build it in standard gauge especially if you put in contrast that most lines were built between 1889 and 1910.. With narrow gauge you can take much sharper turns and speeds with our new trains will be 120 km/h on straight tracks, that's more than enough for this railway.
@josepherhardt1644 жыл бұрын
@@Calandamountain Standard gauge was well established by 1889. I have no problem with narrow-gauge railroading, but if you're going to the expense of hauling equipment into the hills and mountains to build tunnels and viaducts, it just doesn't make sense NOT to have the tunnels and viaducts built to later support standard gauge, should the line be upgraded, for otherwise you'd just have to haul equipment right back to do the work all over again. And, for some tunnels, you can't just widen them--you'd have to build a whole new one. In this particular video, I did not see very many points where narrow-gauge would have been absolutely required because of sharp curves, etc. Anyway, just my opinion, and thanks for responding.
