If you add a singular water source at the opposite side of your chests, you will only need 1 hopper for the collection system, and it will be way cheaper for early game

Now, add a bamboo farm behind it, funnel the bamboo into the furnace for fuel. And now get a few villagers and then them into shepherds that buy the green dye. Boom.

Very well explained! I removed the chests from below the furnace and just added a row of furnaces to hold the cactus and xp. I figured for a smaller to medium farm that would be OK. No need for a lever or extra hoppers.

If you don't want to always go down and add the fuel into furnaces, just add behind each furnace hopper and into hopper put more coal

I haven't rebuilt the farm yet, but the first thing that comes to mind to extend it would be to mirror it on the other side of the hoppers. If you mirror it, then the cactus blocks don't stay next to the hopper, as there is also water there. You could also make a bamboo farm for automatic fuel replenishment. But in any case... thanks for the video.

This is one of the strongest farms in the game without a doubt. Made this today & the amount of XP + Cactus + Green Dye you get is amazing. I upgraded it to 25 blocks wide & extended the flow down 3 layers. Also made it 8 layers tall lol. Crazy amount of cactus falling from the sky & it couldn’t make me happier

This has always been a great XP farm. I run bamboo from a bamboo farm into the backs of the furnaces. No coal necessary.

If you use hoppers to connect a carpet duper to the furnaces, you can have an unlimited fuel source with the flip of a switch. This, in turn, means that you can get unlimited xp without even going anywhere.

If you move the upper row to in between the spaces of the first row but higher up, you don’t need fences because the blocks act as the fences

Great video! I built this farm and at first it was working great. However, after some time it would just stop working for periods of time. I would even sit there for minutes, watch the cactus, and see none grow. Then, some would grow and it would work. Maybe I just expected it to be quicker. I need to make it larger. xD

@@joseguerrero8674 ​ the thing is, his world is in creative mode so the world settings might be tweaked with growth ratios and what not. the wiki literally says a cactus may grow once every 18 minutes on average (you can check the cactus page). so your farms will nowhere near be this fast, but at least it's a practical design without redstone, you can build early game and it doesn't really require any input once you set it up (other than furnace fuel)

You can put stairs on the blocks in front of the hoppers. Those stuck items slide off stairs into hoppers

If you connect an automated bamboo farm you can automate the fuel process. You can also create a lava dripstone farm and feed buckets of lava into it. Better than using up coal.

One tip to gain the xp without having to collect it you can just break the furnace after you smelt everything you want to

The second furnace will almost never get cactus right? Assuming 1 cactus every couple of seconds. I’m trying to come up with a method that would distribute it properly across both evenly. The reason I care is so I can smelt some of the cactus and turn the rest into bonemeal. Any ideas?

It wouild be mjuch better to just use a single hopper at the end, and instead of a string of hoppers, just put down a water block and wash the to the end with water.

when i do the lever thing on the furnaces, it seems to turn off the hopper above it aswell. It wont let the hopper take the cactus from the chest and put it in the furnace until i turn the lever off.

hmm its a good tutorial but tbh it doesn't seem that efficient because you only get about 1 xp levels but im sure it works quite well if you leave it working for a wile

Did you increase your gametick in order to grow these so fast? In the video you get 5 cacti in the span of seconds, and it takes me minutes to get that much. Maybe I've missed you mentioning it? My farm has 126 cacti, which is a whole lot more than you've had in your first build, and I don't get nearly the same amount of cacti as you do.

Yeah. he must have. Based on what the wiki says, they definitely dont grow that fast and normal speed: "Cacti naturally grow to a height of three blocks, adding a block of height when the top cactus block has received 16 random ticks (i.e. on average every 18 minutes, but the actual rate can vary widely)."

I'm also wondering if someone can update us whether some of these farms have been patched out in an update by developers. I made this very farm and once I apply the fences/iron bars between the cactus they stop growing. They grow normally before the bars are placed. Was kinda aggravated I spent the time making it to find it doesn't work anymore. I was doing it for bone meal in survival and hadn't even tried the xp part yet.

Any item that falls into the planted cacti will be destroyed. The only fix (that I’m aware of) is to prevent the dropped cacti from hitting the planted cacti

Collecting things that have been cooked in a furnace yields a small amount of xp, but using the level effectively banks the xp inside the furnace, so when you take out the green dye you get all of the xp that had build up from the cooked cactus for however many hours its been running
