Nick, great camera review as always. I just bump into this one, I know it was a while ago but to answer your question, Caddx does make the Tarsier which records in 4K and the dual camera concept virtually eliminates latency. The FPV camera is basically a Ratel which is one of the best looking cameras out there for analog. Very happy with the Tarsier. The only con is the weight.

Maybe not common in FPV videos, but I know video creators will sometime record in 4K, but edit out a 1080/2.7k, so they could zoom in or crop and still have plenty of resolution and detail.

You asked, so... For me, putting a camera in the aircraft is all about the interactive experience of flying. Unlike many it seems, I find watching FPV videos of quads or planes flying incredibly boring - if I get past 10 seconds then the video must be extremely captivating. I almost never record DVR in my goggles even though it can sometimes make it easier to find the quad when I crash. My favorite quads are 2.5" & 3" toothpicks and those are sensitive to every gram you put on them. All that said, to me anything that does not put video in my goggles is a wast of money and a waste of mass. HD video in the goggles would be great, but neither my bank account or my favorite toothpick quads can afford the cost and weight. Maybe in another few years... :-)

Im no prof videographer and have stayed with 1080p 60fps...i have the runcam hybrid, but decided to just stick with 1080p settings.. i noticed that runcam had better fpv feed (split1, split 2 as compared to caddx turtle v2). I think the caddx 1080p recording is way better though. Split 3 fpv feed has improved too...so for me, caddx won on the 1080p recording, but runcam won on the fpv feed...

I tried suggesting over at Albert Kim's channel that it would be cool to have a product like this, just *without* FPV at all. I got shot down there, because you can always take a product like this for HD and use a proper FPV camera in addition to it. Well, my assumption is that the product might be cheaper and lighter if you don't have any of the analog portions of the system. To have a quad with two FPV systems just to have HD on one of them seems like a waste to me. What do you guys think?

4K would allow for doing post processing image stabilization without loosing resolution when a final export is 1080. Along the same line someone could crop in 2X. But overall 1080 is fine for most cases. Some gear heads just want that max resolution.

I'm glad that you continue to focus on the FPV view. I feel like FPV is the priority and recording is secondary for me. While I continue to look at reviews of the HD/4K cameras, I have yet to buy one. If the video doesn't look great for FPV I'm not interested. That's why I fly, but I occasionally record and would appreciate HD when recording vs the lame FS HDO DVR. If DJI ever gets light enough on the quad I might prefer to have great FPV and occasional recording. I've seen the de-cased Vista which is heading the right direction for sure!

I thanked her for that and noted the dots on the floor for six feet distance, which was behind her. She huffed, I explained that we have a immuno compromised child at home.
