The Ivanhoe Grammar School Cadet Program involves all students in a program including living in the field skills, orienteering and instructional periods on first aid, radio and the use of compasses. An important part of this training is conducted on a weekend Bivouac.
The camp is a highlight for many students, including a number of alumni who choose to come back and spend pre-Christmas on camp with students and teachers, extending their cadet experience beyond their school years.
‘I don’t think my time at Ivanhoe would have been the same without cadets. It is something I speak to people about today. Definitely, in job interviews, it is something that comes up and something I love to share. It has shaped me into the person I am today. So to be able to come back, watching other kids do what I have done and watching them be fulfilled by the same experience, is a really nice feeling. It is a positive’ Juliet Garro (Class of ’18)
