Cadillac CTS 08-13 Headlight Replacement/Repair NO BUMPER REMOVED

Your video was terrific. My brother’s 2008 Cadillac CTS was a little different, because it uses two different lightbulbs - one for the highbeam one for the low beam - and the bulb for the low beam which we had to replace was the H-11, not the H-1. So other than a few little tweaks I want to tell you that we could not have done it without your video. It’s all finished, and we’re good to go. The headlight works. At Pep Boys (in person, in the brick and mortar store) it cost under $20 for the bulb. Thank you so much for sharing this and for posting this video.

Thank You! I was told that it was 6 hours labor to change the headlights. I watched your video a couple times, and was able to change both headlights in 45 minutes, start to finish. Thank you for saving me a few hundred dollars! NOTE: You say that there is no need to remove the bumper, but with all of the bolts that you show to remove, the bumper comes right off anyways :)

No it doesn't. You still have to remove some clips along the underside of the front bumper before you can take it completely off.

Yep, they want the dealers to get the labor money$$$$. Just changed out the HID headlamp bulb in a 2009 CTS. HID bulb was $85 + tax.

Great video. The only thing additional I think you need to cover is how to adjust the headlight beams after being replaced. They will definitely be out of alignment. Would be nice to know where the headlight adjustment screws can be accessed to adjust the beams. Thanks again great video.

I have discovered, after watching another video online, the windshield washer spout pulls out. After doing this you can remove the dust cap and replace the driver side bulb. Not going to lie it is a tight fit. This is how I changed mine out. Take care and good luck

Did it myself with no issues. Noticed when Pep Boys did it in the past ($100 per side) they lost some of the plastic screws. Of course I never knew about it. Now I have to find out how to buy replacement ones.

my rx8 is like that as well both of my cars require bumper removal just to change a lightbulb smh I love my caddy and my rx8 but damn it that is a dumb idea the risk of damage to the paint on your bumper just to change a bulb even at the dealership if they scratch it the will have to repaint the whoe bumper and it will never quite match again without repainting the whole car and the dealership is not going to do that over a scratch or a chip on the plastic

Good info. I'd be a lot more careful with the assembly as far as the wrench handle making contact with the lens on disassembly and resting it on other parts increasing the risk of scratching, or cracking it. This is the Halogen style assembly (also looks like aftermarket as the back of the housing read "Made in China") that is not very expensive to replace. The Xenon assemblies are ~$1000 each and lenses are not sold separately for them that I'm aware of.

i had to get a rivet puller (aka screwdriver) to lift all those out...i had HDMI lights also, but didn't realize until the light cannister was all the way out...THEN it had a different hex nut for that light...lotta lotta pain in the butt for a freakin headlight

So the CTS4 just means it is the awd package, there arent a ton of differences but this is one of the few. The wheel well has plastic push pins all around it and its a royal pita to get them all out without breaking any. Then its easiest to jack the car up and have the wheel turned out on whatever side you are working on, there are 3 bolts i believe you have to undo they are 11mm if i remember correctly.

Not a installer that is concerned about scratching up parts and paint. I do appreciate that people post this stuff to at least give a good idea how it's done. Personally I would pull the entire front bumper cover to avoid flexing the cover that much and potentially cracking the paint on the cover and scratching up the headlight lens. Even for a DIY guy like me, it's big time and money to put things right after heavy handed repairs. It's shocking to find out that the headlight assembly for the HID option costs around $800 new. To strip and repaint that cover in materials alone would be around $300 plus another $300 to pay someone to do it.

Might want to put up a disclaimer these are cheap Ebay headlamps and this won't work with factory units since both bulbs are covered by covers with 3 bolts in them you can't get to without removing them.

If you're going to go through all that work to replace the bulb why would you ever replace it with another halogen? Why wouldn't you upgrade to an HID setup? A reliable kit only cost $40 and you get 10x more visibility

Not really sure why it is titled NO BUMPER REMOVED. The bumper was halfway removed to get one headlight out, its not like this really saves much if any time since if one bulb died the other likely will need to be replaced soon too, and people generally replace them in pairs. You also risk damaging the paint on the bumper bending the shit out of it like he did.

Title is a bit misleading. Since I have had to replace the headlights on my 08 CTS i know what is involved to do it. When I saw the title that said NO BUMPER REMOVED I was excited and curious to see exactly how this was done. However I found out that it was the SAME EXACT THING I had already done. You still have to remove the bumper. I don't mean completely remove it from the car, but you are almost there. You remove all the bolts holding it it place and then peel it back enough to give you access to the headlight assembly bolts and enough room to pull it out of the vehicle. So yes in fact there is bumper removal.
