I'd like to thank you for your video; I just completed (for less than $150) not only a back cover replacement but a full upper case top cover with backlit keyboard and touchpad replacement because of the typical hinge issue these cheaper models have due to their plastic cases breaking from over-time tightening of the hinge. Also, I installed some additional RAM. The laptop is a few years old and out of warranty but still works fine for my 'use it every now and again' purposes. I didn't even have to reseat the heatsink etc. I was able to move (being VERY careful) the whole "board" from the old upper case to the new OEM upper case after removing the battery, numerous screws, and some cables...that's it. Everything works as expected...I did check by booting it up before inserting all the screws and installing a new back cover. I've built several towers in the past and it was interesting to see the components in 'micro-size' as I had never opened up a laptop before. Thank you for providing this video it helped me along the way.

I got my wife a refurbished i3 laptop. DAYS after the return period ran out the screen went green! I phoned the supplier who told me to pound sand nicely. So I phoned Walmart to complain. Abby took my call and said, "I feel badly about this so I'm going to adjust your price." She DID. She REFUNDED the price, EVEN the shipping (2nd day air) I found a new screen over in the UK and paid $50 including shipping! I asked Abby what to do with the computer and she said, "It's yours. Fix it, sell it or give it away!" So thanks to your video on how to replace the screen I got my wife a new 'puter for FIFTY BUCKS! Well played, Walmart and Cadillac Computer Center's video!

Mine is like this but also has a cable at the top of the screen near the camera that I had to disconnect. I needed to fix the busted hinges. The metal was fine but the plastic was stripped. I used jb weld two part adhesive for plastics and metal to put under the hinges and clamped it. So far so good.definitely would have been easier to put back if there was a reassembly video but I really appreciate the help your video gave! Thanks!

I'm looking at getting a similar model for watching movies next to my bed at night. 17" screen looks nice and big. The model I'm looking at (HP 17-by1053dx) does have m.2 nvme storage so being able to install a HDD as well will be a must. I've got an old HP 15.6" from 2010 that I'm using at the moment and its starting to get lines across the screen. It has served me well, I installed an ssd in it and it runs windows 10 pretty good on an old pentium cpu from 2010!

Your video for taking a part an HP 17-ca is great. Do you (or will you) have a video for putting it back together? Your video was the best for removing parts (even though I broke keyboard connector and have to replace it) from laptop. I needed to do this in order to replace my keyboard (I wish you had a video for that). I will watch another tutorial to install the keyboard. I know it's strange, I could just watch the video again to know where to place the parts back, however, this is my first time to touch the inside of a laptop.

Mine does. along the side on the total other side of the mechanical. right off the end of the mb.. along the side. 1 TB Some brand called Forza?? Thanks for this vid. I figured it was a clicker. Didn't figure HP would be stupid to hide the screws :( Saved me alot of time. Came with a 1 TB standard. I added the 1 TB drive on the off side chance I couldn't take it apart. $860 not really a budget laptop/notebook but considering the Dell XPS L702X (17 inch) seems to have a horrid screen back made of METAL that costs anywhere from $125 from china (late march) to $1200 in the USA , (the price I paid for the entire thing) I guess I'll take the plastic. I wish the hard drive was mounded better. as it is. I press in on that area and it goes click. it's only the plastic wrist rest hitting the drive. Once the screws came out I usually use the metal pry tool but seeing him use the plastic one I used that. I have such a tool kit. How I added a hard drive to dads Toshiba clicker... Mom also has a Dell Clicker. Miss the old days of easy out easy in. Probably add my 8 gb memory card to it since one is empty once I turn off the dell.

Hi Dale.... thanks again for all the good info. I am buying the complete 'c' shell on ebay for my 17z-ca300, i checked the hp part surfer and have the right shell, it has the integrated keyboard and touchpad as you indicated in one of your notes. My question is, as your disassembly did not go all the way down to the c-shell is how difficult is it to complete the job down to the c-shell, it looks like the only things left to remove (from your video) is the monitor hinges and a few other parts. Is the monitor hinge assy have any challenges, or is it basically unscrewing and then reinstalling in the new shell? and do you know if i need to disassemble the lcd screen like you did if I am replacing the c-shell only and my monitor is good? thanks for you valuable insight... this is a big job for me and i want to know what i am up against... also I could send it all to you i suppose to do the job, you must have to make $ to be in business, if i ship to you, how much would the cost be to do the work? you can email me privately if you like.. thank you... chuck

My dad brought me his laptop. Same as this video. He spilled milk and a few keys aren’t working. I was hoping it was hardware because g, h and backspace weren’t working. Did a keyboard test and there are quite a few more keys not working. Unsure if it was the milk or did he also drop it. Helpful hints before I take it apart? Did all the sys and everything is working fine and all drivers are utd.

Hello, I love your video, its excellent!! I have a question. I have a HP 17z-ca300 laptop, my mistake when i ordered it from HP is i did not get the backlit keyboard option. Actually there is no backlit for the jetblack version i got (while they do have backlit for the silver version, weird, i know).. anyway... now i want backlit keyboard so I watched your video and ready to undertake the job. My question is this, I can get the silver version shell with backlit keyboard that I know will be compatible for my laptop (I am using the hp part surfer) and that will be OK for me, but I also noticed on one of the earlier versions for the HP-17z (the ca100 vs the ca300 that i have) that they have a jet black backlit keyboard which will match mine. Do you know if it will have the same screw posts and will be compatible with my laptop MB? the part numbers in question are L92783-001 vs L22749-001. The first is my PN from my HP 17z-ca300, and the latter is from a HP 17z-ca100. Appreciate your input...

Hi. I cannot answer your question precisely, but it really depends if your mainboard has backlight connector. Backlit keyboards have 2 separate connectors.
@WambaJambaJam3 жыл бұрын
@@CadillacComputerCenter i did not know that, but it makes sense...... thanks for your input... hey one more question about your teardown video on the HP 17z, you did not completely remove all the components from the shell (where the keyboard is included), and if i am going to replace the keyboard (its a keyboard that is part of the shell which includes the palm rest, keyboard, and touchpad... i will have to remove the hinges and reinstall them on my new shell, are there any challenges with removal of the hinges and do i have to first remove the LCD screen to replace the keypad shell like you did in the video, or can i leave that and just begin dissembling from the underside without removing the screen?

I have a question: I've an HP 17z with an AMD Ryzen 3 that has stopped working, but the problem isn't the hard drive. I've already tested it, and it works just fine. How do you check the motherboard to find out how much RAM it will support? I just ordered a 17z-CA300. It is new and will not get it for a couple more weeks. I have tried to find information on the internet concerning the max RAM that I can upgrade it. CPU will be a Ryzen 7 47OOU.

@jefferymendenhall82973 жыл бұрын
@@zhancondell4532 I am not sure what you mean by hinge (perhaps it is where the RAM is housed?), but Windows loads in a few seconds... I thought about taking the DVD out and putting another SSD in its place, but the DVD form is unlike those of other computers so I don't think it would work (with the Caddy). Another idea I had was to put a micro sd card for extra storage (since it has a slot). My configuration has 256 or so GB: With discounts I paid $536.18, so I think I got a good deal. I was downloading games on steam at super high speeds too = 30 MB per second. I never imagined downloading 7 GB in less than 5 minutes. I really recommend the M.2 SSD as well as the Wi-Fi 6 AX 200. I wish that the 4700U had more threads (like other 8 cores) but it only has 8 threads. The big mistake I made was connecting to my wifi during system setup as well connecting to my Microsoft account. I didn't realize that by doing this you wouldn't have Windows 10 Native! I don't think there is any way to revert this now. I am not sure if this means that I must have an internet connection to log in to my system. I also haven't found where I could toggle WIFI off before turning on the system (like other laptops). I have a one year warranty so I likely won't open up the lid and try to do any sort of upgrades (RAM, etc.) until that warranty is over. Honestly I wished that I had bought two of these systems so I could have sold one of them... There was that option, and I would have gotten an even greater bargain. The only thing that sucked is that I bought the computer Nov. 31 but didn't receive it until 9 days ago. For me, this is like going from a Geo Metro to a Ford Mustang GT 256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD Standard Keyboard (Jet Black) Security Software Trial Jet Black 12 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB, 1 x 8 GB) Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX 200 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5 combo (Supporting Gigabit file transfer speeds) Office Software Trial Windows 10 Home 64 Plus HP TrueVision HD Camera + Mic (Jet Black) 3-cell, 41 Wh Lithium-ion prismatic Battery DVD-Writer AMD Ryzen™ 7 4700U (2.0 GHz, up to 4.1 GHz, 8 MB L3 cache, 8 cores) + AMD Radeon™ Graphics 17.3" diagonal HD+ SVA BrightView WLED-backlit (1600 x 900)

@@zhancondell4532 Of course!! I will mention that the 2 sticks of RAM are not the same. I am not sure if it is an error on their part. 1 stick is 8 GB A-Data Technology 2667 MHZ, and the other is 4 GB Micron Technology 3200 MHZ. I thought they were supposed to be at the same speed at least so maybe it would be even faster. Perhaps in the future I will call them out on it in case I could get an upgrade. If you would, if you decide to buy this would you let me know if it will support 32 GB.
