Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (Arcade) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Capcom's 1993 license-based arcade beat 'em up, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.
Played through as Mess O'Bradovich on the default difficulty level.
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is based on a short-lived early 90s cartoon of the same name, which was in turn based on the 80s comic Xenozoic Tales. The storyline in the game parallels that of the comic and show: sometime in the 26th century, after a major cataclysmic event, dinosaurs are again roaming the earth. The Black Marketeers have been hunting them, and as a result the dinosaurs have become increasingly aggressive toward humans - they now are attacking cities, and our motley crew of "heroes" are looking to put a stop to the organization responsible.
And so the stage is set for a classic Capcom arcade beat 'em up. With your choice of one of four different character archetypes, you march left-to-right, punching and jump kicking anything that poses a threat to your life bar.
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is typical of Capcom's licensed beat 'em ups of the time. That is to say, it is excellent. It follows in the same gameplay mold of Final Fight, Captain Commando, Alien vs. Predator et al, and anyone that is familiar with any of those titles will instantly grasp the mechanics here - you get buttons to punch and kick, and with some skillful handling you get access to a wide variety of attacks. grapples, and special attacks. The system works well - there's a good reason why Capcom stuck to it for so long.
The presentation is what really makes Cadillacs and Dinosaurs stand out against so many beat em ups, though. Everything is brimming with color, backgrounds feature tons of little animation flourishes, and there are a number of "scenes" that play out in stages to further the plot and spur you to action, many of which involve rather violent depictions of "dinosaur abuse." The sound is also top notch, with memorable tunes and tonnes of samples, all presented in Q-sound of course.
Cadillac and Dinosaurs is really a no-brainer if you're a fan of the genre. It's a well made beat 'em up, and it treats its source material far better than the PC/Sega CD game ever did.

Underrated game IMHO. The best beat'em up Capcom ever did. But never achieved the same fame of Final Fight, probably because at the time of its release, Street Fighter 2 was killing the beat'em up market.

Yes. Since is a licensed IP, Capcom never bothered to pay it again to include it in one of their arcade re-releases on modern PC and consoles.

Neat stuff. (to everyone else) This game was made before 9/11, so that's why they still have the Twin Towers in the intro--no one thought something like the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, could be possible back in the day.

You're going to live the rest of your life as a hideous, three-headed dino/human hybrid? I mean, if you beat the good guys, then what? You're going to pop down to the shops in your new body? Man, these villains... I never played this, but it always looks fun and colourful, especially like how the dinos are just there in some stages, but they can be a threat to either side. And man, Mess is stupidly buff. He should go and punch out a T-Rex with one punch with guns like that...

That is a region warning. Lots of games at the time had those, saying that it was only legal to have the game out for paid play in a certain region. Ain't ROMs wonderful?

I remember this game and I loved it so much. My cousins would take me to the movies and I would rather get the money instead of the ticket. I would then divide the money equally between this and mortal kombat 2. I always expected this to appear on the snes but it never did 😥. Thanks for the memories, btw.

Loved this game as a kid. Played a lot too. But I could never handle it like a pro. Same with Final Fight. It's weird how I always remained a mediocre player despite absolutely loving beat 'em ups. Maybe it was because I could only play at the arcade and I didn't really have a lot of pocket money to spare for tokens.

I remember playing and beating this in the arcades back in the mid 90's at an amusement park when it was raining and the rides closed. Had alot of fun. When I saw there was a Cadillacs and Dinosaurs for the Sega CD I thought about tracking and down and buying it. Then I just watched your play through of it and realized it wasn't a port. :(

If you want a port, I'd go with the SMS. It's much closer to the arcade. The NES was "adapted" fairly liberally, but I think that it is a better game overall.
