Again I want to apologize for the mix up with left from right breathing pattern. I was nervous doing this the first time. Got lost in the numbers a little. Hard to talk to yourself for 15min. I’ll get better at it I promise.

Loved it Brett, great to hear such detail. So hard to see in real time! Although if you did a breaststroke analysis it would be lost on me!

Great analysis. I agree that the reaction at the end says it all. Caeleb has spoken a lot about disliking straight arm, and when he popped up with that huge open stroke I laughed. It was almost like Caeleb just had fun for this whole race and then smiled that it was still a 47. I wouldn't be surprised if someone dared him to do a 47 with straight arm stroke lol. Edit: To be fair to Caeleb, it's not really 100% Straight Arm. It's no Manaudou, but for HIM it's still very interesting and different.

I agree with you about the smirking, he talked about taking some time to have fun and enjoy life outside the pool so I think that him taking that time after such a great Olympics, and still being able to come back with very minimal rest (I'm guessing a week at most). I think it'll be similar to 2017 where he was much slower at World Trials and crushed his PB at the big meet (47.9 down to 47.1 from trials to worlds). Maybe not a WR but definitely down in that range again. Loved the analysis, would love to see more as the meet goes.

I thought it’s interesting how he’s been doing more of a straight arm, especially since he’s said how he does not like straight arm. I wonder what’s changed

I have always thought Caeleb's stroke looks like Fred Bousquet's, especially the above water hand placement. Both got some badass tattoos as well.

Not fully rested, no doubt. Will be sharper at Worlds. What's with the more accentuated straight arm and the suggestion that he is breathing on the other side? You missed a good 1500 by Finke and the Kid from Ohio State.

I totally messed that up. He breathes left not right. Same side as usual. My bad

I'd love to hear someone ask Dressel about his hand-pitching/wrist-breaking underwater. How he thinks about it, whether he thinks he sometimes overdoes it. Also, why has he been long going into his 100 free turns? Is he between stroke counts?
